Good morning!
First I'd like to thank everyone for their informative posts on this board - has definitely helped at various stages of my first computer build.
I purchased a Kingston KHX1866C9D3K4/16GX memory kit to go with my P9X79PRO, but BIOS shows the RAM speed at 1333 rather than 1866. CPU is the i7-3820.
From what I gather, this is normal and requires manual tweaking in the BIOS to increase voltage and modify the timing to allow the RAM to run at designed speed.
From Kingston's manual:
XMP TIMING PARAMETERS
JEDEC: DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9 @1.5V
XMP Profile #1: D3-1866 CL9-11-9 @1.65V
XMP Profile #2: D3-1600 CL9-9-9 @1.65V
I'm not sure where to input the "9-11-9" timing values... in my quick searches most timing changes have 4 sets of values to change. I can only find 3 and I do not know which options in BIOS they correspond to.
I really have no intention of over-clocking this machine, I simply want to run at the stock performance levels.
Alternatively, can anyone recommend a set of RAM that is truly plug and play and will operate at 1866 without any tweaking in BIOS? I think this is my preferred option...
Thanks!!
