P67 mobos only dual channel DDR3?

Hi all

Just finished reading about the upcoming P67 mobos from Asus and noticed that they are dual channel DDR3?

I assumed that Sandy Bridge would have triple channel DDR3? Or is that going to be for the high end boards/chips?

Thanks!

I was going to hold off until SB ships, but if the mainstream chips are only going to support dual channel DDR3, then I guess upgrading now wouldn't be so bad?

I've been waiting for SB too but i'm considering just staying 1366 and going with a 990X

I'd rather spend more money on the CPU for vastly better performance than waiting for more expensive tri or quad channel memory solutions that might increase my performance in certain memory specific applications.

The thing I like about triple channel memory is that it lends itself to a 6GB installation. With dual channel, it's either 4 or 8, if you don't want to use both slots on both channels.

But boardmakers have no say in this matter. It is the CPU that determines how many channels you can have.

Indeed. It's the memory controller on the CPU which controls this. Besides Tri-channel and very little advantage over dual channel in the performance department.
