ok, 1st post so bare with me...

i just picked up an ASUS P5W DH mainboard.

i'm running an E6600 - 2GB of OCZ PC6400 @ 800MHz and 3 SATA drives (non-raid) and an IDE optical drive.

ok, the beef is that upon bootup, it takes like almost 1 1/2 mins to get past post and start loading windows. no hard lock, cause i hit TAB to see post and it's still doing it's thing.

i'm not OC'in one bit, not running raid, and an IDE optical drive.

is anyone aware of a workaround...?

i saw the "fix" about the setting the optical drive to "none" or something to that effect, but that only applied if you had a SATA optical drive.

is this just common nature of this board? i was going to try a MSI 975X Platinum and see what's up.

i'm not too hot about the 680i cause i'm not going to run SLI nor OC, so any help would be appreciated.

**also in windows, everything is as snappy as can be. gaming FPS is accurate, installs are fast, and all that good stuff----indicating that there are no hardware issues. and i went from a P5B to this board and the problem didn't exist.

The Motherboard is a little slow in the Post Screen....Especially compared to something with an Award BIOS.

The AMI BIOS has some great advantages....though and you will get used to it...
It has many things that can be tweaked, and is really a good set-up.

If you enter the BIOS set-up you can in the "Boot Settings Configuration" Enable "Quick Boot", and Disable "Full Screen Logo"... that is one step in making it faster.

This MOBO is Dead Stable... If you need it to come up fast... just Enable Hibernation in The Windows Power Options Properties. That saves going thru the Boot-up everytime...

Being a Former AMD guy I was not happy there either..... but I have learned to love the stability, and flawless functioning of this MOBO..... also you should Update your BIOS ASAP... 1506 is the newest....

Try that out, and Post Back... and then i'll give you some info to get e6800 performance in one quick tweak...

And Welcome To Anandtech Forums, and Good Luck with the New C2D....!!

sure thing, thanks man---help appreciated.

i'm at work so i can't try much---lol.

i had a Asus P5B before this one, and even before that i had a K8N Diamond/4400+ X2 and those two boards we on time as far as the boot/post.

but yeah man, i totally agree w/ you---the board is rock-solid as far as performance in windows.

also that quick trick you were referring to for the CPU---will my ps be able to handle it w/ three SATA drives and an 8800GTX..? i got 22A on each of my 12v rails, and wattage is 600W

*** also i am already on 1506 bios.

Good news on the BIOS...

as far as the CPU tweak it is simply putting the FSB to 333mhz... very simple and easy and is not an issue as it will hopefully still at stock voltage or just above.

so w/ the oc it's not gonna draw too much power...?

also i have a zalman 9500 so cooling shouldn't be an issue.

so you think that the voltage sholdn't have to be adjusted?

Most of the Time... no it isn't required... 333 is quite easy... if it hiccups you will know to raise the vCore slightly....

apparently the slow boot is a common issue w/ all the P5W DH fro what i've been seeing...

other than that the board is flawless.

Disabling Q-fan speeds up the boot time as well. First couple times I booted up took like three minutes each. Taking suggestions from others I disabled the Qfan and that took care of the long boot times.

333fsb is considered a safe/guranteed 25% OC with this mobo. Other than setting the fsb and RAM timings not much more to do. Very simple.
