p4 2.8E 1mb cache
512mb Kingston PC3200, believe it's Kingston chips, it's not Infineon or Samsung.
Tried in slot 1 and 2.

Nothing else connected to the MB, using onboard video.

So yeah, my problem is random locks and no POST's.

I'm suspecting the PS because it only has a 20pin ATX connector and the MB manual strongly recommends a 24pin. The PS recommendation is plenty according to the manual, and the Antec True's are pretty decent PS's (I still like my Fortron/Sparkle better :p )
The one time I managed to get far enough into the BIOS, the voltage monitors checked out fine.

When I turn on the computer, the CPU fan starts up at what seems to be 2/3 of it's full speed, then when you get the single POST beep through the PC speaker and display comes alive, you get the full fan speed.
When it doesn't POST, the fan stays at the 2/3 speed.

I was building the system for my friend and I had to jet, but he's going out to get a 20 to 24pin ATX adapter and hopefully that'll work.

Yes, I've tried clearing the BIOS a couple times.

Any other thoughts or experiences?

That board also appears to have the 4pin ATX 12V connector. If that Antec has that, you could try plugging that in if the 20 to 24 pin adapter doesn't work.

That 4pin always has to be used, regardless of the 20 or 24pin ATX connector.

He's reporting that while trying to install WinXP at various stages it'll give him BSOD's with IRQL, page fault in non paged area, etc.

Going to run a memtest and test with my Zalman 400w PS and see what's up.

RAM was the problem the whole time.
Exchanged it for an identical Kingston part number but Hynix chip'd stick, works fine.

I suspect that the board would be fine without the 20->24pin adapter since the voltages measured through the BIOS were fine, but it's not a bad idea to run the adapter anyways.

Also a fact worth noting is that the WD 160GB SE (IDE) and the Liteon 1633 when on the same cable... the WD had to be run without a jumper (IE: single drive mode) otherwise neither drive would get detected when run in the usual master w/ slave present mode, with the Liteon set as slave.

Yes, it should be used. A lot of people don't bother getting a new PS with the 4 pin connector. They just plug in the 20pin connector from their old tried and true PS, and as long as they don't load up the system, they are fine.

There have been many threads around here about confusion over the different PS connectors. A lot of people were totally unaware of the ATX 12V standard, even though it's been a standard for over a year now. They apparently got along fine without that extra power. :D

That's why I tend to automatically ask if the connector is plugged in.
