Have a starting up problem - when booting up the Windows XP logo stops the horizontal scrolling and I have to reset each time to get it to boot on second attempt
in Chipset - does anyone know what "static read control" means - i have disabled now
Also PEG force x1 - does this mean what I think it means - I have disabled

And still have a cold boot issue - when the power is completely off and switched on again have the double start issue - this may or may not be fixable since Asus cannot accomadate hardcore Ocers - I am at 471 X 7

Does anyone else want to see certain issues fixed in a future bios update or should we all just wait on more 680i offerings which is looking sweet

I don't understand why people are having so many issues with this mobo.

It works great for me.

Are you sure the issues you're having aren't due to the crap Corsair you're pushing way over normal spec?
(Not all Corsair is crap; just basically everything current except Dominator series = cheap chips that suck for OCing.)

Here are what i use for settings (bios 0711):

Under Advanced > CPU Configuration i disable C1E Support & PECI.
Modify Ratio Support enables lower multiplier options.

I can run either 8x425 4:5 or 7x486 1:1
For 7x486, RAM is DDR2-972 4-4-4-4

Bios 0711

AI Tuning = Manual
CPU Frequency = 425
DRAM Frequency = 1063
PCI-e Frequency = 100
PCI = 33.33
Spread Spectrum = Disabled
Memory Voltage = 2.1V
CPU VCore Voltage = 1.45V (in Windows, this results in 1.42V idle; 1.4V load)
FSB Termination Voltage = 1.3V
NB Vcore = 1.45V
SB VCore = 1.5V
ICH Chipset Voltage 1.057V or auto

Memory Remap Feature = Disabled
Configure DRAM Timings by SPD = Disabled
DRAM CAS# Latency (TCL/CAS) = 5
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay (TRCD) = 5
DRAM RAS# Precharge (TRP) = 5
DRAM RAS# Activate to Precharge (TRAS) = 5 (warning: most RAM cannot run this low)
DRAM Write Recovery Time = 6 (this i will tweak more later, but i can go down to 4)
DRAM TRFC = 42 (improves PI times, but i haven't tweaked it for 24/7 yet; likely will be using 30, since 25 isn't stable)
DRAM TRRD = 10
Rank Write to Read Delay = 10
Read to Precharge Delay = 10
Write to Precharge Delay = 10
Static Read Control = Disable

Aside from TRFC, in the testing/benching i have done, the last five setting affect performance in a very minimal way, so i haven't bothered with them much.

I know it has to do with the RAM (remember achieving 972 on this RAM is no mean feat but not forgetting that these boards were never meant to run this much over spec - it all has to do with bios (take your mind back to the A7N8X-dlx and see what I mean). I do not really have any issues - runs great but I would like another BIOS rev soon to clean up the last bugs (above issues are minimal - more of an irritant than real porblems). I have noticed that these days Asus seems to abandon support for a board rather quickly and moves on to better stuff as they keep coming out
