From my understanding of the Core i5 it will only have a dual channel memory controller. So probably the max memory its going to support is 8GB right?

They will continue to develop processors for the core i7 and that will be the high end right?

Maximum memory is very important to me because of the type of stuff i run VMWare / Development tools / SQL Server / ect... I'm not wanting to limit myself to 8GB max. Heck i have 8GB now and there is no way i want that to be my upward limit.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Here is a preview of a P55 motherboard. It states it only supports 8GB

thanks,

I imagine there will be 16GB with 4GB DIMMs, if not more. If you need more/cheaper memory sooner than 4GBs coming down, you'll probably want a 1366 board. Although upgrading on 1366 after the i7 920s are gone is gonna be an expensive proposition.

Decided just to save some buck right now and go with the Q9550. The Q9550 is probably fast enough just for about anything. My MB has a max of 16GB (where can you get 4GB DDR2 at?). I think its a little early to tell where the Core i5 are going to be at before they are released. I think the Q9550 will get me bye for awhile. Of course the e8400 @ 3.6ghz i have right now is probably fast enough but i have the upgrade bug :). I kind of have my heart that my next MB will have USB3 anyways.
