I recently installed an Asus P4S533 into a system. Originally, I had a WDC 15GB 7200 rpm drive in the system...Win2k became corrupted after one day. I replaced the IDE cable with a new one, wiped the disk and reinstalled Win2k again....corrupted after 2 days. I took out the WDC drive and put in a Maxtor 40GB 5400 drive, installed Win2k and it became corrupted after about a week. I wiped and reinstalled Win2k, OS corrupted after a few days.

When I say corrupted, I mean Win2k could not repair the OS even with the ERD. I tried every repair method with no luck. For each install I used the latest drivers, Win2k SP3 and all the windows critical updates. This machine is my sons and all he does it web browsing, email and AIM. There's no viruses, trojans, spyware, adware or anything.....this is a CLEAN system. BTW - I build/repair PC's everydayso I know what I'm doing.

? Is there a known issue I can't find on the web with these mobos or the SiS 645 chipset (or south bridge)? The reason I'm asking is I was helping someone with a P4S333 a couple of months ago and he was having the same issue until he traded his mobo for an 845 based one.

I have a P4S533 with a Maxtor 40 Gig 7200 ata 133. I've had no corruption problems so far and it's overclocked constantly. I did have problems with W2K SP3 installing properly and defragging the first two tries. But, it's running fine now. When i had an Nvidia display card installed, the latest display driver wouldn't defrag properly after three reinstallation tries. So i went back to the previous driver and it worked fine. If you've done all of the proper troubleshooting to include elimination of possible incompatible software, checking for an inadvertent ground between motherboard and case, etc. then you've probably just gotten a bad motherboard. I had to return an Asus P4S8X for a very similar HD problem such as you're describing.

P4S533 here with Maxtor 40 ATA133 boot and Maxtor 80 5400 secondary. No problems running under Win98. RAM is at 4/6 and 145 so it async at 217MHz.

System is rock stable with no corruptions issues whatsoever. One of the fastest and most stable boards I've ever used.

I think it's great!

Thanks guys. I just formatted and gave it another shot. This time I didn't install the SiS IDE drivers, using stock win2k. If it croaks again, I'll RMA it. I was just wondering if these boards had a history of IDE issues or not....haven't had time to prowl the forums as I usually do lately.
