Just built with nothing attached but vid card, proccesor, heatsink and fan. i can not get into the bios and it keeps giving me a system halt error. says system failed due to overcloocking and cmos not set right. well tried resetting it but no luck and cant fix anything because i cant get into the bios. anyone have any idea what may be wrong here.

i have tried all that, same thing. System Halted..........Error

Can not get into BIOS at all.

I'm RMA'ing it back to newegg and have another go at it. I think possibly the board is corrupt :(

May need the newest bios
1. Do not use Aflash.exe / EZflash /Afudos.exe to update BIOSV1006
2. Extract all the files into the floppy disk, and simply run P4C81006.exe under DOS mode, the BIOS update will execute automatically. Please refer to the readme file which is included in the zipfile to get the details of BIOS update procedure.
3. Fixed the system can not boot when setting CPU FSB to be 166~199 MHz.
4. Fixed EZ flash fails if some VGA cards are used.(ATI 9700 pro,ASUS X4000, 3DLabs Wildcat II 5110...)
5. Fixed Win2000 server becomes unstable if ATI 9700 Pro VGA card is used
6. Fixed the FSB frequencies of Willamette CPUs are detected as 133MHz.
7. Add "CPU VCore Voltage" setup option to 1.9500V.

When you get the screen that say failed due to overclocking.
You should have 2 options listed
F1 to enter BIOS and
F2 to restore defaults

Use the F2 and see if it works.

well, i never saw the F1 and F2 funtions, they weren't listed.

and Viper, i can't even upgrade to the newest BIOS, i can't even get into a dos prompt with it. It stops at post and won't let me go any farther. SYSTEM HALT..........ERROR

I have already contacted newegg and i am RMA'ing it back for a replacement. Very strange indeed.

I have been very pleased with my P4C800.

Sorry for your troubles. We have all been there.

At least I have but it was an ABIT.

How many sticks of RAM and what manufacturer\type? Try it with just one stick so it doesn't try to run dual channel.

Bummer :( At least you have a great PSU, that removes one big variable from the equation. Let me ask a dumb question, do you have the 4-pin secondary power plugged into the board  and if you happened to pick up a new high-wattage video card like a 9700 Pro or 9500 Pro, etc, does it have its secondary power plugged in?
