Clueless about comparing various DDR400 memory compatible with P4C800-E deluxe.
Link to qualified vendor list below.

usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4c800-e_d/P4C800_DDR400_QVL.pdf

Want 512mb x 2 (1024 total) to start with option to upgrade to either 2 gb
(adding 512 x 2), 3 gb (adding 1024 x 2) or 4 gb (discarding original 512 x 2).
This seems to require that selected memory qualified under columns B and C on
..._QVL.pdf.

Quality moderately more important to me than price. Plausible that I may wish
to overclock in a year or two. Request memory quality/price/overclocking
opinions for the p4c800-e. BTW, is upgrading to 3 gb (2x512 + 2x1024) do-able
on the p4c800-e without hurting memory performance?

That motherboard is compatible with pretty much any DDR 400 memory available. 2x 512 is more then enough memory to handle most any chores to include gaming. I would go with the new Corsiar XMS that run up to 250 fsb on 2.85v which is the max of that board. OCZ Platinum is also very good memory.
