P4B266 overclocking problems

Hiya,

I can't seem to get this mobo to do anything above 118 FSB stable. I have the memory at 1:1 so that's ruled out and it did 150 2-2-2 on my other mobo. I'm using an P4 1.6A(package date 04/04/02) with retail HSF with AS2 and it gets screen corruption in the postscreen if i go to 133FSB 1:1. Also this is when it's on for 30secs and my case is open so i don't think it's a heatproblem. I've tried every vcore and memvoltage but it seems unaffected it will only go this high. Is it possible that my mobo is defective or do you think it's my cpu which seems unlikely. Also i've used the turbo 1 fix to fix my pci and agp but it doesn't matter. I've tried a different PSU, vidcard, ram etc. I have not yet tried another cpu coz that's a bit hard to do for me atm. Could it be that intel has crippled it's 845D chipsets to make sure the 845E and G will sell?? Any advice is welcome, i'm lost here 🙁

Thx in advance 🙂

The temp is below 30C coz it's just turned on for 30 secs, and i've got a SL668 costa rica cpu packaged at 04/04/02 so i'd think the cpu should at least do 2.0Ghz. Too bad i can't return this mobo coz it works stable at default speed 🙁 I'm thinking about getting another mobo if it is really giving me problems. Is asus the only brand which uses the EZ plug feature? Coz i'm a bit done with asus atm 🙂 RDram or DDR doesn't matter i want to get at least 2.4Ghz out of this thing 🙂

I have the C version of that board and it has issues with fsb and USB. Maybe this is your problem, if you have the C version.

I think the normal P4B266 has 2.0 USB slots and doesn't have the same problem, but I am not for sure.

The problem exists on both P4B266 and -C versions. When you have ANYTHING plugged into the USB 1.1 ports (the two at the top) at bootup at higher FSB's, then the system hangs and refuses to boot. What you need to do is put all of your USB devices on the USB 2.0 ports (the ones that come with the motherboard and take up a PCI slot cover ...

Once the machine boots you can use the USB 1.1 ports no problem, but if anything is in them before the machine boots then the system will freeze right after/during POST. Since you have the P4B266 (not -C version) just use the USB 2.0 ports and you should be fine.

I'm aware of the usb problem but it's not that, it's just that when i set the fsb to 124 or so, the bios post screen gets corrupted ie weird carracters on screen, missing caracters and the biossetup is totally scrambled. I'm thinking about a new board but i'm not totally convinced, do you guys have any more suggestions?? Thx for the help so far 🙂

Maybe you got a chip that wont overclock? What kind of memory do you have? How many sticks?Double or single sided?.....

Did you try setting the bus to 133with the junpers?? Mine works great with the jumpers (switches), but will only overclock with the BIOS if you disable the sound. R

I don't think it's my cpu coz it always crashes above 118 regardless of what vcore i use. I'm using crucial pc2100 which is stable at 150 2-2-2 on my old a7m266 and it is double sided but i've also tried different memory but it didn't have any effect whatsoever, the same goes for another psu and videocard. And i have tried the fsb's by jumper but i get the same problems in my postscreen and my biossetup is messed up again.
