P4B266 on a non ATX 12v using EZPLUG

Anyone have experience with using the EZPLUG on this motherboard, as opposed to having an ATX 12V Power Supply?

Was hoping to run P4 1.9, on this, was wondering if I might have problems in the future, not having enough power or what not.

Reason I'm asking is, I bought the Motherboard, and the one I received from NewEgg will not power up, on a ATX 12V or non-ATX 12V, so I'm RMAing it for another one, unless I'll have similar problems again.

I also RMA'ed the P4B266-C I got from Newegg. Fortunately, they approved my RMA request and they e-mailed me saying "Restocking Fee: No".

I'm curious, was your motherboard bubblewrapped when it arrived? Mine wasn't. The mobo was in an antistatic bag inside a Fedex box. Inside the same box were the cables, a backpanel USB connector, manual, and CD. I remember when I opened the Fedex box I was concerned because the backpanel USB connector was made of metal and plastic and it could be bumping with mobo components during shipping.
 
I don't own the board (yet) so I'm not sure, but I believe the whole point is that you have to use BOTH power inputs. Most p4 boards have an extra (read in addition) plug for power, but it's not standard. The EZ-plug just makes things easier by using a standard molex connecter. I'm pretty sure both need to be plugged in.
 
yeah you need to plug in BOTH the OG power connector and the new 4 pin/ or the old 4-pin molex...you can't do just one and expect it to boot up...i was only plugging the P4 only 4 pin thinking that that was all that was needed for my mobo to power on and it didn't and for awhile i thought i had a bad board (llike for maybe 5 minutes)lol but yeah at all times you will have two plugs from your psu plugged into the motherboard...the big plug and the old 4 pin or the new p4 4 pin
 
P4B266 here, awesome board, the power supply I have is an Antec 400W PP412X, was only 70 shipped, has the special P4 connector on it, I recommend it.

HenHowC, sorry for asking, but are you sure? I believe Rebels7 (see my linky above) is using only the EZ Plug. Also, ASUS Website describes EZ Plug (link) as follows:

I'd like to know for sure because I'm getting my P4B266 in the mail today. By your statement above, I'm going to have to order a P4 power supply and have it shipped overnight ($$$ 🙁 ).

Sorry, about answering so late...

About NewEgg... I ordered a few things from them, however, the Motherboard came in a FedEx box, no bubble wrap, just the anti-static bag, and all the cables, book and CD were stuffed inside with it, just as you describe..

I also noticed when I was setting some jumpers, that one of the Jumpers for the frequencies was set to ON, and I'm pretty sure they come OFF from the factory, so my suspesion is I got a board that had already been handled in some fashion.

I have also RMA'd the board, no restocking, and they should be sending my replacement out today or tomorrow.

I'm glad you've had similar problems..

BTW, do you now have a working P4B266-C running? 😛

I'm pretty positive that using the EZPLUG will work fine, assuming you don't have to many power hungry things, not much I can imagine.

I don't know when I will receive my RMA from NewEgg, you said you'd have your today maybe, Feb 15.

Keep me posted on how it goes, and I'll let you know of my luck..
 
what i meant is you know the BIG multi-pinned psu connector tha all non-p4 systems use? you have to plug that in PLUS the EZPLUg(molex)...or if you have a P4 ready psu you have to plug the 4-pin P4 adapter in + the BIG multi-pinned psu connector...the squarish one

sorry for the confusion...old PSU units will work with the P4 mobos...i'm just saying maybe one of these guys only had one of these connectors plugged in at a time versus the two that you are supposed to have (be it EZ Plug or new P4) 🙂

Mine was all set OFF. Yes, they should all be in the OFF position.

I RMA'd it. I would have to check my credit card just to make sure I get the credit. The motherboard is still in transit, according to USPS' tracking website. Will keep you informed.

I did a refund, though, instead of exchange. I told Newegg I couldn't wait for the turnaround (a couple of days before and after I ship the motherboard) so I ordered the more expensive P4B266 (the non-"C", non-OEM version) from mwave. I am now using the P4B266 mobo from mwave, no problems. Installation was smooth.

Just to make sure, I also upgraded my power supply to one with the ATX12V (P4) connector. I paid $43 + tax for 400W. I thought it was an unnecessary, additional expense, but now that I have th 400W, I'm happy with the upgrade.

Hi HenHowC! I upgraded my power supply to one with the ATX12V (squarish plug). I did not bother connecting the EZPlug molex but I'm fine now. Thanks!
