P4B266 and CPU Temp - Stuck at 40 degrees?

Hello all,

I purchased the Asus P4B266 and 1.6A and I am running some tests but want to make sure the CPU temp isn't going out of control. However, when I check the CPU temp through the BIOS or through Asus Probe, it seems like it is stuck at 40 degrees, regardless of what I put the CPU through. Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you for the help,

Matt

I have the Asus P4S333 and a 1.6A and I have a similar problem. It seems that Asus probe can't read temps under 40C, however when I go into my BIOS, it will often say my chip is somewhere around 32C. I have read of others with this problem, but I can't remember what board they were using. If you are running it at 1.6 GHz your temps probably don't even get up to 40C, I know mine don't, so that's probably why you aren't getting a change. Hopefully there will be an update that fixes this.

Same problem here. Motherboard Monitor 5 gives me accurate readings below 40 deg; however, PCprobe and my BIOS register nothing below 40.

I have the P4B266-C and MBM measures CPU temps from as low as 29C to as high as 43C so far.

That is from initial boot up to processor cranking on SETI.

My bios version is 1002.

So, I don't seem to have the same 40C problem that everyone else seems to.

What bios versions does everyone have that is having the problem?

Same 40 degree temp here with the P4B266-C and the 1.6a cpu. Hopefully there will be a fix.. but I noticed on the Asus site the latest bios is 1.1 I believe(while it actually shows I've got 1.2 when I perform a reboot. I'm also having some of those USB issues (MS Wheel Mouse Optical hangs the system if I try to overclock).. Will trying to flash the bios from the standard P4B266 kill the -c?

Thanks

I would wait for the correct bios for your board. If you notice, the P4B266 is up to bios 1006 beta and the the P4B266-C is only on 1002. You never really want to gamble with your mb bios unless you have a Bios Savior chip installed.
