P45 vs P35

I'm running a P965 mobo right now and have been eyeing the P35 line for some time but with the near release of P45 mobos, I'm wondering if I should get one of the P45's or take advantage of the price drops on P35 mobos. Any ideas?

Nothing terribly ground breaking, IMO. My concern would be stability. There are a ton of P35 boards and many are proven performers.

What are the features you're after in moving to a new board/chipset?

You could go with either option. The P45 is going to be the same as P35 + PCIe 2.0 and official 1600FSB support. If you're not buying for a month or two just wait and see what the market looks like and make your decision then. If you're buying now, just go P35 because P45 is still weeks away.

Are you getting a new CPU also?

If not, then I don't see a reason to change. P45 will be a die shrink, so hopefully it should run a bit cooler. That's probably the biggest change. PCie 2.0 doesn't seem to mean a lot right now.

The only thing that might make it worth getting a p45 when they come out is if (and it's a BIG if) they can run the new 45nm quads at a higher FSB. (disclaimer: This is only hypothetical, I haven't seen anything about this, but you never know). My only thinking is that P35 clocked the Q6600's a bit higher then the 975's and 965's, so something similar could happen again.

If you do want a quad 45nm CPU, then waiting until the P45 boards come out and people have some reviews on them to see what they are capable of isn't a bad idea.

but if he doesn't need Crossfire (& most don't) then it doesn't make sense to upgrade for a feature that you won't use ...

Bottom line, unless the P45 feature set specifically appeals to you, then go with P35. Considering that the X38/X48 is not any faster in some regards compared to the P35, it is hard for me to imagine how the P45 will offer any performance improvement.

As said before it really depends on what you are willing to do.
Because if you are going to run stock there is not much difference between P35 and P965.
But if you are planning to OC and have a good memory that you can take advantage, then I think it would be better to wait for P45 and compare with the P35 results and prices, and then decide which way to go.
