ok, i know this has been debated b4 but i need some fairly quick opions...... i fried my CPU and MB and i'm thinking of going to an intel system... my question is how does a 1.6 P4 northwood compare to an AMD XP 2000..... in terms of gaming, stablity and performace in general with no overclocking on either one.... thanks!!

Without overclocking AMD is still a far better value. You will save $50-100 on the CPU and motherboard for equivalent AMD and Intel systems.

That said overclocking a P4 1.6A can really be a joke. You use the stock Heatsink/Fan and just set the FSB speed to 133 in the bios(at least for Epox 4G4A+) and you have a 2.133 Ghz CPU without any other part of the system overclocked.

WITHOUT OVERCLOCKING ANYTHING the XP 2000 is definitly faster in general on all fronts, even an Intel fan would buy that statement. As far as stability goes, I think they are about even, and that could be debated all day. I like (in general) ASUS, ABIT and DFI (cheap, but OK) for motherboard choices. I hear that EPOX is OK, but the only one I ever tried, was DOA, so I went back to ASUS.
