I just put together my P4 1.6a and it is running 2.1 at 41 c, crunching SETI 100% load, using stock hsf.
And default vcore. So I would say you are running a tad warm, since you have that Alpha on there.

well iam not sure how low they should be but i do know
that the Northwood chips which you are currently using do run alot cooler even when OC'd
mine is not a Northwood chip

I have my 1.8a@2.124Mhz with default voltage running at 41c Idle and 49c full load with stock Intel heatsink.

If your 1.8 is not a northwood, I guess the temp is within range.

P41.6A @ 2560 vcore 1.850v
Thermaltake Volcano 7+ with AC3
@ low fan speed ~3000RPM
CPU idle 30C
CPU load 51C (prime95)
@ med fan speed ~4500RPM
CPU idle 29C
CPU load 47C (prime95)
@ max fan speed ~6000RPM
CPU idle 29C
CPU load 43C (prime95)
All system temp at approximately 23-25 C, which is about 1-3 C above room temp.

I also have a P4 1.8A on a TH7-II.

At stock speeds, my load is around 51-52C, and idle is around 43. I am using the stock heat sink and fan with AS3. I run it at 2.0Ghz, and the temp is 45C/53C Idle/Load. I stopped worrying about temp really.

Either the motherboards vary quite a bit on temp readings, or the P4's vary quite a bit. Some people have very low temps, and others have temps like mine. I have tried the thermal pad, and AS3. I think some people are getting the 1.6a/1.8a's that could have been sold as 2.4's but due to demand are marked to the lower speed... others are getting chips that would have normally only been rated as high as what you bought them as.

Critical temp on the P4 1.8's is 67 degrees. Sometime after that they will begin to throttle back. There is pretty much no chance in burning it up. It would take years for even a 65C temp to have any affect on the chip, and I doubt you plan on keeping it that long.

with the stock heatsink im running at 2.4ghz @50c stock cooling.

Does anyone know if a alpha will really help me get any higher? because at 2.5ghz im at 54c and i still lock up. so it doesnt look like its the cpu if it locks up at 54c.

Then agian my memory is at 2-2-2 5. the next steep i should take as far as my ram settings? al i know is that the first number is the main cas speed. 3 = cl3, 2 = cl2. but what about as far as the other numbers?

Thanks

1.8A@2.48 GHz
1.75 Vcore
Room Temp. = 24 C.
System Temp. = 32 C.
CPU Idle = 46 C.
CPU Full Load = 60 C.

Using a Cooler Master IHC-H71 hsf, and running on an MSI 845 Ultra-ARU motherboard. From what I've read, the MSI board seems to give a high temperature reading compared to other motherboards. Although my temps seem a little bit high, I have yet to see any stability problems, and this is after hours upon hours of Grand Theft Auto 3 and Soldiers of Fortune 2. Have yet to have a BSOD or random reboot. So I think that the temperatures really mean nothing as long as the system is stable.

Ok...I've been away from Intel OCing for awhile. I got a retail 1.8A using the stock fan and a Asus P4S533. The thing seemed to have taken alot more voltage than I hoped to get stable. I set the bios at 1.7 but Asus probe shows it bouncing around 1.79-1.85 which seems odd. In the bios at 1.5 vcore it shows actual 1.61 or so. Seems good and stable now. At rest its around 38C-41C but full load it peaks around 57 or 58C. Should I be really worried or is it a situation where I'll be upgrading again before anything goes wrong? :)
