Thing is I called dell and was told none of there copmputers come with agp slots. I was also told that very few of there systems come with 300 watt power supplies. Not looking to build a computer this time around.

Buy the parts then have a local shop put it together for $50 -- you're still coming out ahead. Though I wouldn't know what to do without Win95 ... lol.

Dell Dimension 4700 and 8400 and XPS (Gen 3 and 4) models come with PCIe.

At Dell Outlet you can get models 4600, 8300, and XPS (Gen 1 and 2) that come with 8x agp slots.
 
But how would I know if it had an AGP port? Buy one and get lucky? What abot the power supply? Or should I just buy a new power supply and put in it?

If the model number is 4600 or 8300, it has an agp slot. Period.

Model's 2400 and 3000 do NOT have agp (nor PCIe). Period.

Dell uses very good, high quality power supplies.

How about those Dell SC400 server dells back then or now the SC420 deals? It comes with PCI-E slot too. I wonder if this would be decent mini gaming rig with some more ram and decent PCI-E card.

PCI-E slot cant be used without mods and from the sound of things this guy doesnt even want to build one let alone mod something.

I have a 5900XT and I want to make sure I have no power supply problems. If a 4600 has the power to run this card then great. Bamacre thanks alot for all the help.

Yup. I got a 4600 right now with a 9800 pro in it. You'll be fine.

You CAN however, go to dell Outlet under Small Business and pick up a Dell 400SC server, they do have 8X agp slots and great power supplies. These things were very popular when Dell was selling them.

i tried to run a 9500pro with a 250w - i ain't gone do it no more, done learn my (expensive lesson)

First, the psu in the Dell is probably 10x better than the "nonBrand" that appears to come with the one listed at the link.

I'd also like to point out that the Dell I mentioned with the 9800 pro is still sealed in the box, i.e., Dell configured this machine with the 9800 Pro, so the psu is just fine for a 5900XT that the OP already has.

You are absolutley correct, the current deals on 400SC (which is only available from Dell at it's Outlet) are not good. These things can be found for a decent price, but one would likely need to check the site often and be quick about buying.

OP, I'd also like to point out that the current deals on the 4600 and 8300 systems are pretty bad too. These things are running $50 to $100 off right now, they have times when they are $100 to $300 off. Then there are sometimes coupons for an extra $50 to $150 off that discounted price, posted on other sites. They just finished off two rounds of 10%-off coupons.

Check THIS out for more information and examples of what some people had found.

Check out the new deals that will come out in a day or two. You never know. Search this thread for "dell" and find Luv2Saves's sig for other info.
 
the cheapest 9800 Pro on pricewatch is $165...for not much more u can get a 6600GT

but if you're on a tight budget than a 9800 Pro or 9600XT will do just fine
