P4 running to strong?

I have my p4 2.6c running at 3.25ghz. My stick of 512 3200 corsair is 2.85v and fsb is at 250fsb with a 5:4 ratio, 1.60vcore. Well everything is running very cool, 24C idle, and around 31C overload, atleast what asus probe is telling me. When I run prime95 it fails within the first minute or two. But in games it is completely stable, haven't had a restart yet and have been running for a day or so now. Is prime95 telling me something? Will I have problems in the future from running to high? Thanks

asus boards, in my experience, have always under-reported temperatures. i have a 3.0 @ 3.6 on a p4c800 and it says low-mid 30s idle load. I also have a wired temperature probe leading to a display on my case, that displays ~45 at idle load.

just be careful of what asus probe tells you

Asus probe measures the socket temp. Not the diode temp.

Diode temp will always (atleast in 99% of cases) be higher than socket temp.

For example.

My current die and socket temps.

Diode - 49

Socket - 42.

read the txt files that came with prime, they will give you the answer to this one, even though in a pretty bold way

about your OC, what mobo ?
what are your ram timings set at ? what are the spec timings for this ram ?

Best would be a divider setting that keeps your memory speed relatively low. Then see how high the cpu goes.

I have a stick of corsair 512 3200 w/platinum heatspreaders. What do you recommend my cas settings be and how do I get it at a 1:1 ratio on an asus p4p800? The only thing i can get it to run or that I know of is 3:2 which is 266 on the board. Like I have the option for 266(3:2) 320(5:4) 400(forget). How can I get it to run 1:1 and what cas settings? Also what vcore should I run it at at the 1:1? I have an ISO 450watt power supply, not that great but came with my case. Thanks

1:1 wont happen, thats 500mhz on the ram and pc3200 wont go that high no matter what voltage or timings
put the ram at 320 (which would be 5:4)
what Id recommend you try is loose timings, as in 3-4-4, to see if you can pass prime

Does it run Prime95 at default settings without anomalies?

If so, go from there. Sounds like you're jumping out too far into the lake. :)

Cheers!

Does fine at stock speeds. I bought this thing to overclock it, so i'm going to overclock it, do you think my ram is holding me back?
