In the last week or so P4 prices have dropped dramatcially. A 1.5ghz p4 reatil is selling for $158 at buy.com. Now should I still go with the AMD Tbird or go with the P$ considering the price gap has narrowed and VIA is coming out with a DDR chipset? Need help......stuck in the middle and can't decide.

Thanks

Definitely go with the p4. Much better chip! And more compatible. If your fan or heatsink comes loose on the Athlon you have a dead chip!

Yeah, but Intel is saying that the Via DDR chipset is evil and that nobody should use it. :Q Then again, intel just wants to make more money off of rambus.

I suggest going with a T-Bird but it really depends what kind of stuff you want to do with it.

if you can afford it, a P4 is a great choice, although the Athlon is a worthy (and much less expensive) alternative. However, my next PC will be a Northwood, hopefully around Christmas time.

Do nothing... it will only get cheaper... get the newer p4 not the s423 ones if you really need to get one..

Yeah, I'm in agreement with Forcesho, I won't do anything until the REAL P4's, Northwood, come out...

yeah the S478 P4 Retail is selling 156 at buy.com, if anyone wants the link here it is: http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10310354
I'm going with DDR ram in either case since i just bought some yesterday from crucial in anticipation of building my system, but since intel will be annoncing furher cuts next week and the new Intel board "supposedly" showing up in mid sept.....dunno whether the P4 will be the better choice even though i will not be maximizing the performance because I'm using DDR ram. I know that this is the ageold debate, but if performance difference is minimal (and the most intensive thing I will be using it for is gaming CounterStrike, and maybe some hard core excel modelling) should I stick with the AMD.
