P4 Price Cuts??

I was waiting until September to buy my P4 2.53 GHz because of the impending price cuts, however I was reading through some old threads and came across this:

I'm looking at a P4 2.4 (was going to go 2.53 but since the price isn't dropping on Sept 1... )

Is this true, has there been a change? The articles I read at the end of July stated that the 2.53 GHz processor would be taking the steepest price cut, is there a more updated article that I missed??

FWIW you can get the P4 2.26 for 250.00 and it will o/c to 2.53 without breaking a sweat.

A lot of 2.26's will also dance at 2.8, including mine. I was trying to be conservative in my recommendation. :)

Yeah, when I build a new machine for myself overall cost isn't really my main concern, I'm more interested in getting as close to top of the line as possible, while still paying a somewhat lower price. Originally I was going to go with the 2.26 (mid July), but then found out about the price cuts which were supposed to happen Sept.1. The BONUS of waiting until September was to show my buddy up. He loves paying premium prices for stuff right when it first comes out (yeah I know he's WAY overpaid). I prefer waiting a month or two and getting it for half the price and then laughing at him as he curses himself for being so impulsive, and I figured he bought it at $610 why not wait until September and see what I can get it for?

Sorry I don't have a link, but the latest article I read said that Intel isn't cutting all the processors on the same day. Some on Sept. 1st and some late Sept. I guess if you search enough you will find the same article. However those were all written in the beginning of July - well before Intel moved up its processors. Rumors are now that we will see the newer ones on Aug. 26th. This processor move might have changed Intel's plans a bit. Thus on Monday they listed an updated price cut list for those with reseller passwords. The link is here, but I don't have a password to get in.

However the important thing isn't when Intel drops prices, it is when the resellers drop prices. Some places drop a few weeks after Intel - to gain a lot of profit by purchasing them cheap and selling them at the old high prices. Other place drop a few weeks before the official Intel price cut - to gain marketshare, clear out their inventories, and refill them after the cut. Since last Friday, the 2.53 GHz P4 has dropped in price by over $100 on pricewatch. So we are beginning to see this occur.

Yeah, I noticed that too! I checked Pricewatch Monday and was suprised to see the 2.53 down to $452 shipped. Hopefully they keep dropping over the next few weeks.

As of today, they've got the 2.53 down to $399 plus shipping on pricewatch, and they've also begun preoders for the 2.8 GHz. Keep dropping baby!:D
