the fact of the matter is it does not overclock well because it is nearing the end of the current core (palomino) i doubt you can get anything significant over 2100+ without an extreme cooling solution

if you want an overclockable amd then at least wait for a thoroughbred bet from what i've read the reduction in the core size takes most of the benefits from .18 - > .13 and the drop in vcore

so the t-bred will only dissipate %15 less heat than that of a similarly clocked AXP

i say if you want amd wait for hammer

the only reason i would buy amd right now is if i did not overclock at all then it is the obvious choice price/perfwise

1.6 and 1.8 a's IMO are the best bang for yer buck

u might want to wait though because with the intro to 533 bus than i'd say they'd drop the 1.6 and 1.8s and 2.0's will only carry a small price premium over 1.8a's right now

jachristie79, are you upgrading? If you are, I think it's better to wait for AMD Hammer 😉, or 133MHz FSB Pentium 4 + Dual channel DDR chipset.

Pentium 4 Northwood.

Get a 1.6A or a 1.8A and push it as far as it'll go. It simply outperforms AMD's best right now, runs cooler, and costs the same or even a few dollars less.

It's quite obvious that if money is no object then you should get the 2.4 GHz P4 + RDRAM combo. That's the fastest system that money can buy plus it'll be even faster if you overclock it.

Most people dont want a 36dba delta screamer in their computer, after a while it gets to you.

Psst, fan noise. I could care less. 🙂

533 p4s are so close you can almost taste it, thats a speed upgrade worth holding off a couple weeks for.
