Hi it's been a while since I last upgraded so I'm a little confused with today's lastest PC products.

I'm going for a P4 setup. I've been hearing good comments about the ASUS P4B533-E with DDR. I'ts the CPU FSB that I'm confused about and the memory. First with the CPU. I can get a P4 2.2Ghz 512k 400FSB S478 CPU or the P4 2.26Ghz 512k 533FSB S478 CPU. Which do I go for, the 400FSB or the 533FSB CPU? is there a huge difference in performance???

Now with the memory. I've got a choice of getting these 3 types (which is the better),
256MB DDR PC2100, CAS2
256MB DDR PC2700, 333Mhz
Kingston 256MB PC2700 333MHz CAS2.5

Which should I go for???

Thanks.

I've got the same mobo, and love it. I'm using everything on it except for the firewire, and I've got my 1.6A overclocked to 2.4.

If you wanna overclock, get a 1.6A before they go outta stock. If not, get the 2.2 533FSB, or 2.2B. Running stock the 2.2B will run faster because it's running on a faster fsb. Also, the 2.2B is a good option if you want to overclock later.

My suggestion for memory is Cosair XMS 3200 or 3000. If you want to go with the 2700, get true Samsung PC2700 (newegg sells it).

Hope this helps.....:)

Get the 2.26 over the 2.0A. Much faster CPU. Dont get the P4B533-E. It has no mem ratio support over 132 FSB. With that CPU, you will be stuck @ DDR266 on that board. You are better off with an 845G based board that has DDR333 support (4:5 mem ratio). If you want to stay with 845E, there are other boards that have 3:4 mem ratio support that will run DDR355 @ 133 FSB.

I agree. If you want the raid and other goodies, and you're concerned with the ratio, I think the Abit raid board will suit you (though I'm not sure if it has the pci lock like the Asus 845E/G boards....Oldfart?). I think there's a good Epox board also. Good luck!

For 845E with PCI/AGP lock, and 3:4 ratio, there is Abit BD7II or Epox 4BEA. For 845G, the Asus P4B533-V, Abit BG7, Epox 4G4A all have PCI/AGP lock, 4:5 ratio. The 3:4 ratio support on 845G above 133 FSB seems a bit fuzzy at this point.

Yeah, the BD7II was what I was thinking of.....:)

Fuzzy as in unknown if it supports it?
