{p4+i850+RDRAM} - {Athlon 1000 + ASUS + SDRAM} = $100

I need an immediate upgrade. But my plan was to wait for nforce and DDR to get to india. Right now, an offer i got for parts says the following :

intel P4 + i850 board + 128 MB RD RAM = Rs. 27000 = $540
AMD Athlon 1 GHz + ASUS KT 133A board + 128 MB SD RAM = Rs. 22000 = $440

What should I go for? Should I wait for DDR and Nforce cards like A7N266. If I go shopping, maybe I will get a lesser price for the athlon but not P4. The upgrade need can wait maximum till September 15. If there were any chance ASUS would release A7N266 tomorrow, I'd buy it. Is the above offer highly attractive ( the P4 offer)? I am very confused. 😕😕😕😕😕😕

Thanks in advance for any help

in the computer world there is always a better product right around the corner. and when the nforce gets here there will probably be something even better to be released in a couple months.

when im ready to upgrade i just buy what is the best at that time and dont worry to much about what will be coming out (not to say im not excited about the nforce, hehehe it looks cool)

to your question 🙂 one of the last boards i personally set up was an a7v133 (the board you have listed as a posiblity) and i really liked it. i had no problems with it, totally stable and very fast. im currently using an epox 8kta3 because i needed an isa slot.(im often times getting in old used hardware and i wanted an isa slot so i could test isa devices, like scsi cards/modems/etc)

but if it wasnt for the need of an isa slot the a7v133 would be my first choice with the iwill kk266 as the second choice.

at www.newegg.com you can buy:
1.2ghz(retail with heatsink/fan) athlon $126
asus a7v133 $130
at www.crucial.com
256mb pc133 cas2 ram for about $60
total with shipping would be under $350

the iwill kk266 board is $107
epox 8kta3 $92

and if you want a good ddr board you can get
epox 8k7a $120
iwill kk266

They don't.

Duty + Transport gets added. That's why I think the intel offer above is a deal. The reason i am waiting for nforce is because with quality integrated video and audio (4 MB PCI is the best video card i've ever had), it would give me a medium quality PC at an affordable price. I would not need to buy a 3D card and all with an nforce. The intel marketing lobby is damn strong. I've decided to wait till nforce and then go to Mumbai (the port town) and buy the stuff at a far lower price.
