Just ordered this baby more out of curiosity to see how it will perform with some o/c'ng. You all know SIS is not the best o/c'ng board but with Dual DDR it might make it to 160-165. And with DDR ratios to DDR400 it could produce some good numbers.

This is the striped down version of Gigabyte's SINXP1394 (formerly GA-8SQ800 Ultra) which goes for $230 at Newegg. They are out of the cheap-o version that sells for $112 but I found my board at Essential Computer which has very high ratings from Resellerratings.com. I got mine for $118 shipped 2nd air. Probably get it by Monday/Tuesday since the Northeast has been inundated by the snow storm....

I plan to use a 2.4G and a pair of TwinMos 512 mb sticks with BH-5 chips. So, it behooves you to have PC3200 or higher for this board because the Vdimm is a bit low for my liking. It only goes to plus 0.1 above default. I just hope it overvolts instead of undervolting. the Vcore is to 1.725 but that should be fine for 160-165 fsb.

I thought about getting the Granite Bay m/b but darn it they are expensive and especially if I upgrade to the Springdale. This would be the perfect board to hold me over until Jun/Jul when the Springdale should be out.

There are two reviews that I found so far for the expensive model:

Keep us posted with your results!

The SiS655 boards certainly look very interesting, and have great potential.

EDIT - I saw at www.x86-secret.com that they claim the Gigabyte has upto 2.8V adjustments on memory voltage. It's in french, but they cover all 3 boards, with HyperThreading tests too. BIOS and Overclocking results here.

Hmm, looks like that could be a typo on the reviewer's part. People who have just received their Gigabytes have reported 2.6V as the maximum voltage possible :(

However, decent memory should do well at 2.6V, and bigtoe at Asusboards.com is already looking at modifying the BIOS to set 2.6V as default and allow for higher Vagp. Read about it here.

Best of luck when your board arrives!

I agree. I think it is wishful thinking for this board. To good to be true to have the add'l Vdimm to 2.8....

even with the voltage as it is I feel that the speed gained from supplying all the necessary bandwidth to the P4 CPU and having some left over is good enough. anything else you can squeeze out of it is gravy.

He has already done it. One guy reported now getting +0.2 over default. So, 2.7 makes me feel more comfortable.

Are you talking about the snap in plate to go into the back of the computer?

Well, that IS what it is called :D The motherboard manual even calls it an I/O Shield

An I/O Shield is on included ONLY on the GA-8SQ800 Ultra according to the manual.

I/O Shield/Backpanel is what I've always referred to it as :)

I gotcha the first time even if the others didn't :p
