I am putting together a system with a P4 2.4B and ofcourse I am looking to overclock. I have seen some talk on the internet about the stock p4 cooler being good at removing heat. I guess all the years that I have had a AMD cpu has taught me to hate and distrust stock coolers. I just cant belive that a stock cooler can be used to cool a chip that going to see such a high overclock. I am planning(hoping) to get the core up to 3 gHz so I would appreciate some input on what I should due for a cooling solution.

Thanks
Scott

Check out some of the active coolers at ThermalTake... (active as in the ones with a peltier/heatsink/fan). Should easily handle what you are looking to do. Might cost you some $$ though...

Yeah, I agree with Fallen Kell. You're going to need a peltier or a water cooling system if you want to up your 2.4 to 3 safely. HSF is out of the question, unless you go with some serious HSF.

Water cooling. All the cool kids are doing it. ;)

Active (peltier) coolers have some disadvantages as well as their advantages. Be sure to do a little research before splurging. Water cooling is more popular, although it does have it's issues as well.

So you guys dont think an Alpha 8045t with a Panaflo would be good enough?...Or maybe an all aluminum Zalman

For a P4 you'd need the Alpha 8942. That with a Panaflo L1A or M1A should be just fine and pretty darn quiet. I'm using an 8942 + L1A on my 2.66 that's OCed to 3.0Ghz. Load temps are in high 40°C range.

Thats what I meant I have a 8045T with a Vantec Tornado on my Athlon XP2000@1.87ghz and that seems to keep my Cpu pretty cool. I dont see why it wouldnt work with a P4. I certainly not going with another Torando though....Man even on my Rheobus that thing is still loud.
