p4-amd hdd question

im planing to get a a8n-sli board. im going to keep my existing HDD both my CD/DVD drives. i am geting everything new but that stuff. my question is do i HAVE to reformate my HDD to go from p4 to amd?

Since you're swapping your mobo, you probably will either have to reformat or do a repair installation. I'd just backup and reformat, though--thiswould be a pretty good time to do this anyway, especially if your last format was quite a while ago.
 
So you've never reformatted it? All you're doing is backing up your files, not the OS. You then just put in the Windows CD, reformat, reinstall, and... oh, that's right, you have a prebuilt.... Your existing Windows CD may not work anyway if it's Sony OEM stuff. Copies like that often will only install if they detect hardware from that OEM. If you need to buy another copy, just go on Newegg and buy the OEM version with a screw or something (to make the purchase legal).
 
It depends on whether or not you need the extra networking/file protection features in Pro (I think that is what's added, anyway), which is unlikely.
