Hi all,

Intel P4 3.0 - 200 MHz FSB
Motherboard Intel - D865PERL
Memory - 768mb DDR333 RAM
6800GT 256mb - 371 MHz / 1002 MHz
Used 61.72's / 66.81's - Vsync Off

Now I upgraded from a Ti4200 128mb, so i was looking for a huge boost in doom3 and ready for HL2 but I'm getting no where near the benchmarks I've seen on this card and the PC is very much like mine that I've seen it tested on.

I'm getting around 53FPS in the D3 timedemo in every settings,
1280x1024
High - Low
54.2 - 53.2

800x600
High - Low
53.2 - 53.2

Ultra Quality
1024x768
52

Everything low / off
70fps

In Halo,
EVERYTHING HIGHEST / ON
Resolution= 1280 x 1024
Refresh rate= 60 Hz
Average frame rate=58.50fps

Resolution= 1024 x 768
Refresh rate= 70 Hz
Average frame rate=67.22fps

EVERYTHING OFF / LOW
Resolution= 800 x 600
Refresh rate= 85 Hz
Average frame rate=81.66fps

Poeple on slower PC's are getting better results then me, my 3dmark05 score is just under 5000 (if that really matters) but I lose over 1000marks on my CPU to other people who have the same / lower PC.

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...1=6800+AND+low+AND+fps

I'm not the only person it seems to have low FPS he is having the same problem as me.. I'm not sure what it could be any help pleaseeeeee?

Cheers Mike

You consider 53 a low average for D3??

Either way, do you have triple buffering enabled in OpenGL tab?

are you using the latest drivers? And throw away those DDR-333 modules and get yourself DDR-400 for a marginal improvement in performance.

Thats pretty good. Im not sure about the 6800GT, but for my FX-5950, disabling Anti-aliasing totally and using shaders 1.1 gives a huge boost in performance.

Where do I find that tab? cant see it in the driver tabs.

When I look at these kinda of benchmarks I think 53fps is low when a 9800pro is getting 77fps and my card costs twice as much and is brand new.

http://www.anandtech.com/video...c.html?i=1821&p=22

And the PC that is tested is very close to mine so when I brought this card I was looking for a big change. :(

I've tried the ones that came with the card and the lastest from nvidia plus the newest beta drivers, all give the same readings really but they give a big boost in 3dmark but I care more about my FPS.

I know my basic PC is pretty good but I wasnt to sure if its the (small) things that can be letting me down? like you said about the RAM.

The fact that you are getting the same FPS on all D3 tests below 1280x1024, indicates that your system is CPU/Memory limited, and it isnt the video card.

Its most likely the memory since it is DDR333, and I'm guessing from the amount you have that it isnt being run dual channel. Still though, you are getting good scores, and it isnt horribly broken. I know that with my Ti4200 and a similar setup I was getting sub 30fps scores in the same tests.

Still though, those scores are about what they should be, it isnt like something is horribly broken.

Nah I'm not in dual channel, I was running 512mb then added another for 1Gb but one stick turned out to be faulty so I'm at 768 now, If I was to change my RAM what should I buy? this is my first time I updated my PC from when it first came out so the little things was bound to be dated some what.
I was just looking for alot bigger boost given the price of this damn card. :p

Running the RAM asynchronously with the CPU makes the system slow. Get yourself a DUAL channel DDR-400, borrow it and see if there is any improvment in the performance. What are your memory timings?

I would say that you got a really nice boost, its just that the games you chose are limited by CPU/Memory at the resolutions you were running at.

There are a huge number of memory choices that can run at DDR400, the questions are: do you want to overclock, and how much do you have to spend?

Ok, sorry but what do you mean by 'memory timings'?

Go to 3D tab and then go to OpenGL. Set the slider towards Performance instead of Quality.

Then click on "Compatibility." Go to option "Triple Buffering" and set it to enable.

And for D3 time demo, people have suggested not to take the fps number from the first run because of memory caching and the fps is usually deflated.

I think you have the options mixed up they are for a ati card, I cant find 3D tab or OpenGL unless I'm missing something.

Sorry, I have boxes with both nvidia and ati.

Looking again at your avg fps, try overclocking your 3.0 to 3.4 (230 fsb x 15) and rerun your timedemo. (if your memory allows)

With D3 uncapped timedemo, if your avg fps does change then it was your cpu limiting your gt all along.

No problem, I've never overclocked anything I know you can get programs to do graphic cards but I'm not to sure on CPU's any starter points or sites if I pick that path. I could google but that'll bring a shed load of stuff. :p

I would rather not overclock and for the RAM it depends how big the gap between better ram is.. and if its really will boost my performance so I can run D3/Hl2 Very well fps wise.

I wouldnt know the changes in all the ram you can get I just know a few makes thats all.
