What sort of benefits would I get from a Thermalright XP-90 and perhaps a 80mm Papst. Gotta be quiet as possible with a nominal heat reduction.

Under load the CPU runs at about 60 to 65 Deg C which I believe is quite hot. What do you think?

Cheers,

Case and case fan info would help Shagga, but I think you'd be better off w/ the XP90 w/ a Panaflo(M1A or H1A) on a controller or SpeedFan or your BIOS "smart/qfan." Get best of both worlds (quiet and performance) that way.

Right okay. I'm at work and I'll do my best to remember my setup.

Firstly, I have a Coolermaster 201sx Aluminium case I forget the reference but it is something like the one I've quoted, not sure about the sx bit. In terms of fans I have 2 x 80mm Papst (ref??) pulling air in from the front of the case and 1 x 80mm Papst (Ref??) pulling air in from the top. This one pulls cool air into the PSU area and the other two at the front pull cool air over 3 x hard drives as well as across the mobo, albeit limited. I have 1 x 80mm Papst (Ref??) pulling air out of the case at the rear. I have noticed that it is particularly warm air that is expelled so this one is certainly required and probably another. 3 x in and 1 x out, the math doesn't work I know. I may turn the 1 x 80mm Papst at the top of the case to get the warm air out which is probably the way it should be done thinking about it. Doh! :frown:

What do you think guyz?

Get a SI-120, and make sure your case has enough ventilation. Or get a AMD processor.... :p

Get a 4000+ San Diego. Its much faster, it runs cooler, and it costs less...$368 for the 4000+ and $635 for the P4. Its not worth it and all. And its a prescott? Did you know that that is one of the hottest run processors of all time? If you put a several ounce container of lava on top of a A64 it would run cooler than a prescott...You would be better off buying a 3000+ Venice for $146 and ocing it...

Thanks for the opinions guyz. :p But I don't have an AMD processor, I have an Intel. ;) Back on topic. Should I look at the Thermalright XP-90C. Is a copper heatsink much better than the Aluminium one?

Applause for dodging the possible flames. Experienced member who hasnt visited Video much :)

The XP90C is classed as too heavy by most users here and it only seems to shave 1-2C off the all-aluminium one. Generally not worth it on these boards but 1-2C on an A64 maybe 3-4C on your processor.

You may want to look into the Thermaltake Big Typhoon and the Sl-120. BIG, BEEFY and probably the BEST. Scythe Ninja is worth a mention alongside these 2.

Thanks for the reply. Informative post. I'll stick with the Aluminium then. ;) I just need to find somewhere in the UK that stocks Panaflow M1A's

Thanks again...;)

You could try http://www.svc.com and see if they can ship to UK. Or just look for a British e-tailer I guess :p

Also, the SI-120 and Ninja are worth a second mention.

Dude, i know this isn't what you want to hear but intel is difficult to cool. Thats the bottom line...An XP-90C would help but its a waste of $60 in my opinion. But if you are going to get that, put a 90mm silent cat on it. Its the best fan in the world. Extremely silent, but moves a ton of air and you can hook it up to a fan controler which you can't on most panaflos. Its a solution, but you are never going to get good temps with a prescott...

Is there some reason you're limited to selecting the smaller XP-90 coolers?
