P4 3.0G or Athlon64 3000+ help me choose.

All other components will be the same. I could save some coin if I went with the 685G VM because it has onboard video. The computer will be used mostly for mixing/making music and the odd game but nothing fancy like doom3 or the like.

i highly suggest you the Socket 939 A64 since AMD is gonna stop the 754 socket soon for the high end.

i agree get the a64 but get socket 939 and maybe wait for the nf4 boards.than get a pci-e card 😀

If your primary useage is going to be Mixing and encoding audio, I would take a second look at the Pentium 4. Looking at benchmarks, the P4 is generally better and encoding and decoding media.

I,m on a budget so 939 would shoot it up 150 and the comp is not for gaming so NF4 with pci will not help that much as far as I know. I want to buy the parts this weekend so waiting for something better is not an option.

or WD.

Neither. Seagate have a five year warranty. Just as fast, pricing is mostly the same.

Ditto. Always got WDs before Seagate came out with their 5 year warranties. Bought 3 Seagates since and love 'em.

The a64 system is gonna be cheaper and offer more from the mobo.
I'd go that way. Intel honestly just doesn't compete very well right now with a64 stuff.
The 64 bit windows OS will be out this year and then it wont even be close as to which is better.

And while you aren't overclocking right now, you could with the A64 and that mobo quite easily later to improve performance without spending big bux.

You can stick with the s754 stuff since you aren't likely to care about a big pci-e vid card or overclocking enough to worry about major heat.

wth does that mean? even at stock speeds, the a64 is faster in general vs a comparable P4.
