Kyle seems to show performance gains accross the board. Sometimes large gains. Looks like Intel has a winner here. Free performance for everyone!!! :D

Yup, but I already knew HT was great. ;) I've been alluding to HT's greatness since IDF when Anand and I saw some HT demos.

Hmm, well i bet there would be even bigger gains with a GB board, you wouldn't know anything about that, now would you??;)

Well....GB is good, I'll say that much. It's not HT-good though...

Ok the real question now is, does the C steppign 1.8's - 2.0's 2.4's etc come with HT?

Just think
Granite bay.
1.8 P4 with HT (c stepping)

running @ 3.2 air cooled
and dual channel DDR = hot damn

He's talking about thigns like sandra, winstone - general non important rubbish which can be tweaked for the HT cpu.

what he's neglecting is Q3 / Photoshop tests which also show it's l33t.

Check out Aces review

Pretty good.

Yep that and the SSE2 stuff.

Overall, I'm mildly impressed. Some decent gains.

All I got to say is impressive...more then I thought it would deliver...

Here is a recap:

Business winstone------------7.4%
Content Creation--------------9.7%
Sysmark-------------------------3.0%
Bapco Sys 2002----------------2.7%
Quake 3 (640x480)------------2.1%
Commanche 4 (640x480)-----2.7%
3dmark2k1SE Build 330-------5.2%
Photoshop 7 render-----------26.2%
PH7 + Quake 3 ----------------12.0%
PH7 + Quake 3 + DVD--------16.4%
Commanche 4 + MusicMatch-18.7%
Commanche 4 + MS Word----15.0%

Amd better start getting these paperlaunched chips out...This 3.06ghz cpu with HT enabled is like the next 2 INtel launches at once!!!!

Unfortunately no, you can't enable it.
And even if you could it wouldn't be the same as the 3.06 as it has something new added to it.

Moving to water cooling we can easily achieve a solid 23 x 166 = 3.82GHz at 1.7v. We mean stable and solid when you can turn in impressive 18424 MadOnion scores all day long.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got to get one of these.

No increase in gaming though from HT. :(
And the 3dmark scores look odd considering nobody else got that same kind of increase.
Most sites got about 80point increase and HardOCP got 800!

If you read to the end of the review it says that all "B" versions of Northwood chips have hyperthreading and you just have to enable it in the BIOS... ( and get a BIOS update ). Well, maybe I read that somewhere else, but that's your answer...

Wouldn't it make more sense to have 2 computers. One to use for encoding and one to use for gaming, etc.

I want to know how it works in database sorting and querying in non-optimized systems. Stock P4's seem to really suck at these tasks.

My original post was not too long after the review went up.

Anybody else notice that the score has dropped. Now there's only a 379point difference in 3dmark scores.
Which still sounds fishy to me, as no one else can duplicate a score close to that.

Faked?
Shame, shame shame!
You cheat on your wife; you?re going to get caught... You steal a car from a car dealer; you?re going to get caught... It?s just the same as if you publish invalid benchmarks in a formal review presented to thousands of potential (mislead) buyers; you?re going to get caught out one way or another by someone who is paying closer attention than you would have thought and hoped wouldn?t.

And this someone was a member of the Xtreme Systems Forums who discovered (with proof, mind you) that all-mighty Kyle and gang at HardOCP faked 3D benchmark results in their recent Pentium 4 3.06GHz review suggesting when enabling Hyper-Threading (HT), you?ll gain an extra thousand odd 3DMarks, when in fact our testing (and results from other sites) showed only a 200 or thereabout 3DMark increase. Take our own in-house results for example; we only saw an increase of 188 3DMarks when HT was enabled. Funnily enough, the results over at HardOCP continue to change which adds more fuel to the speculation that HardOCP had been paid off for this review.

Now for some of you it would be obvious TweakTown and HardOCP have never ever seen eye-to-eye and I doubt ever will... Nevertheless, you can be damn well rest assured that we will NEVER be bribed for any piece of hardware you see on TweakTown, no matter how big the pay check ? Integrity is the key and without that you might as well be shot, although it would seem HardOCP disagree with this notion.

I've had my say and now I shall hit the sack since it's nearing 4am down under.

Not to mention that there's a few people on this board with 3Ghz+ systems and 9700's that aren't getting 17k+ scores in 3dmark.
