Hi All,

I received my new Intel P4 3.0 GHz / 800 MHz fsb cpu yesterday.

There were several reports that Intel has a stop ship on the cpu's due to some bug that was discovered at the last moment. I called Intel yesterday and the first tech I spoke to didn't even know the new processor existed.

I called again this morning since I just received my AOPEN AX4C-Max motherboard. Intel has now confirmed there is a stop ship and recommends I return my coveted P3 3.0 Ghz cpu :-((

You cannot be serious, of course, because only AMD has problems with delayed launch dates and bugs and recalls and stuff like that. At least, so were are constantly being told....

LOL, unfortunately I have the new machine almost fully built. I think I am going to finish building it to run some benchmarks.

I am trying to find out if the bug would affect me but they are being quiet about the actual bug.

Figures, I finally decide to go with top shelf stuff only to have this problem. But then again anything involving computers is beta testing. Look at motherboards, always some bios upgrade to fix a problem.

I'd see what you could get for it on Ebay if you don't want it...there are plenty of enthusiasts and extreme overclocker/gamer types that would probably pay a premium for it (maybe even someone here on AT). It sounds like it might be an obscure problem similar to the problem with the original Pentium.

I'm trying to finish getting the machine together in between work (yes, that 4 letter word). Going to run it for a few days before deciding what I'll do about the cpu. I think Intel should send me a loaner 3.06 GHz to use until they fix the bug with the 3.00 GHz cpu. Somehow I do not see that happening but I will be calling the corporate office. Stranger things have happened.

I currently have a P4 2.4B with Gigabyte GA-8PE667 Untra (845PE) motherboard. Curious how this will stack up to it.
