So I've recently aquired a P4-2.8ghz that has the MO stepping and 30 capacitors(heard they were great overclockers!). I've heard of people getting these things above 4ghz! I also heard that they could get to 3.5ghz with stock voltages. However, with my current setup my windows won't post when my fsb reaches 250 (3.5ghz). If anyone can tell me why this is I would greatly appreciate it. I've been told that it is my memory holding me back. Here are my specs:
ASUS P4C800 DELUXE
P4-2.8GHZ @3.4(CURRENTLY) (MO STEPPING/30 CAPACITORS) SKT 478
ATI X850XT AGP@ PE SPEEDS
2GB DDR 3200 (4@512MB) COSAIR VALUE SELECT
80GIG HD
HIPER TYPE-R 580 WATT PSU (MODULAR):)

Using a ram divider to keep your ram from trying to run at PC4000 speeds? Don't know about hitting 4ghz, but 3.4-3.6ghz is pretty reasonable.

I'm sorry but I don't know what a ram divider is or how to use it. I'm obviously a noob to overclocking so please enlighten me.

I wouldn't bet on 4GHz. I can't get my 30 cap 3.2 over 3.6GHz. 3.4-3.6 is a more reasonable target.

also, what voltage are you using?

you do know that the p4c800 vcore voltage "droops" right (meaning at load the voltage drops and goes all over the place)?
