p4 2.8e hsf recommendation?

My new p4 2.8e (not oc'd) idles at 54*c, so it looks like I need a better hsf than the Intel one; however, I know nothing about them.

Can someone give me some recommendations on a good hsf? I'd like to keep it under $50.

Thanks!

It should still work with 2.8E, shouldn't it? I'm using an Intel mb.

Yes it should .
I does how ever have some MB compatibility issues

click meh
if your mobo is on the list you are fine

The SP94 is the best HS out right now, but good luck keeping it under $50. Don't forget you also have to buy a fan for it. I would suggest the Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu, it is the second best P4 cooler (only about 1-2C warmer than the Thermalright), and its easier to install, looks better, and is quieter (even in normal mode, virtually inaudible in silent mode).

Either one will work good, make sure and use AS5 (or equivalent).

Measurements with Pentium 4 overclocked 2.94 GHz
VCore 1,7V approx. 90W WVL

DW Load 100%CPU load Space temperature Fan UPM

TR Heatpipe Sp-94 delta MARRIAGE 24,2°C 50,0°C 25,8°C 5950

Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu 7V 33,2°C 64,0°C 30,8°C 1650

hmm... 10C avr. temp drop sp94 vs zalman sure more dB but 50C full load ?!

Sort of like a a F1 Ferrari is more dB than a bicycle.

I have a 7000AL-CU and a SP94 + 90mm Enermax. About 3 degrees C better performance and well worth it for a Prescott IMO.

I also tried a 80mm Delta and couldn't live with the noise.

BTW don't overtighten the SP-94. It took me 2 weeks to hunt down that mistake.

But you are comparing the fastest, loudest fan on the Sp-94 to the quiet mode of the Zalman.
If you compare the two at similar fan speeds, they perform about the same:

TR Heatpipe Sp-94 Pope 26dB 30,1°C 61,0°C 30,9°C 2710
Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu 12V 30,2°C 61,0°C 30,8°C 2480

So, the main difference between the two seems to be that one lets you choose your own fan and the other includes a fan and controller. One is more customizable and the other is less expensive.

I personally prefer the Al-Cu version of the Zalman, but that's because I don't OC and I don't like the mass of all that copper.
