P4 2.8C vs. Mobile Barton?

I'm trying to put another rig together for my roommate, and I was wondering which setup to go with.

1)P4 2.8C (and hope to get the M0 stepping...is this pretty much guaranteed from Newegg?) w/ the IC7 Max3

OR

2)Mobile Barton (not sure on which one yet...which would be best?) w/ an NF7-S

I would probably try and get the 2.8 up to around 3.5 ghz and I would expect somewhere around 2.4-2.5 from the Mobile Barton. At these speeds which is faster in general? On a side note is there really much of a difference in the 2400 and 2600 mobiles? He will be doing some video editting/encoding so I know the P4 would dominate that....but what about gaming and other apps?

I appreciate any suggestions or comments on this setup. He's looking to act very soon.

What does he do most of ? Budget ? I think that mobile Barton will be less then the 2.8c. For gaming, which video card ? and which games ?

Yea he likes the big price difference of the Barton. He would probably be gaming more than anything else. He's using a 4600 for now...and waiting for the 6800/X800 to be released to upgrade. Not sure what games he plays....but I know I got him hooked on Far Cry and he plays a lot of Counter-strike also.

well, the mobile at 2.4-2.5GHz is about the speed of 3600-3800+, but you will be required to get a good psu, a good motherboard (nf7) for a stable overclock. between the 2400 and 2600, there is not much in difference besides the fact that the 2600 overclocks a bit better.

Based on that, go for the Barton.

Which is easier to overclock? There has only been a hand full who tried to over clock the 2.8C that far.

I would say that you are much more likely to the projected Barton speeds than the P4 ones.

I thought I read that the M0 2.8C's are all getting to around 3.5 without a whole lot of problems....even on stock cooling.

What are the chances that I wouldn't get an M0 chip from newegg?

I think my Barton @ 2.5hz w/ 512 OCZ PC3200 feels faster than my buddies P4 2.8m0 @ 3.5 w/ 1GB OCZ PC3200
My box has a 9800 and his a ti4600 though.

i thinks its the other way around

i have only tried 1 mobile barton but the most i was able to get out of with a sane amount of voltage (1.8) was 2375 or so Mhz

on the other hand, all 3 2.8c i hae tried did 3.5 with 1.65 or less

i would be VERY surprised if an m0 didnt get to 3.5 ghz on stock or near stock voltage
