Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I OC'd a system but I've been around it since the ol' Celery 300A @ 450 days. I just placed my order with newegg for these parts and I'm a little anxious about my purchase. My hopes are to get this running at 3.5GHz (250FSB 5:4 divider). Are my chances good with this setup?

Thanks in advance,

Robert

Edit: You know, I think I should have got the Mushkin Level 1 Dual Pack 256x2 PC3500. Does it really matter or will either one hit DDR500?

Hmmm, my only problem with your choice in motherboard is the fact that the IC7 is know to have an issue with voltage going to the memory. Anything above 2.8v is unstable and requires a volt-mod to go higher.

I was in the same boat as you recently and picked up an AI7 instead... a newer board with better onboard sound and a lower price. Yes, it is based on the i865 chipset, but it is VERY close in performace to the IC7 when overclocking, has no voltage issues, and contains U-Guru :)

Running at 5:4 @ 250Mhz means running the memory at 200Mhz... kinda defeating the purpose of PC3500. Better off picking up ADATA PC4000 from NewEgg (CHEAP!) and running 1:1 !!!

It's the IC7-Max3 with the VTT issue and going over 2.8v. The IC7/IC7-G have no problems whatsoever with VDIMM. Though BIOS limits VDIMM at 2.8v, with mods, you can go well above that point. Actually, with a slew of IC7-G mods, it can easily be the best i875 board.

Actually it's PC3700. Will PC3700 have an easier time hitting 250FSB 1:1 with low latency?

I am running that setup currently (2.8C on IC7).......basically I was able to run at a max. of 243FSB (3368mhz) at stock voltage with stock cooling. Any more FSB mhz....and system would crash on P95. Decided to up voltage...but needed very cooling solution....went with Zalman....cranked up the voltage to between 1.65-1.676 and am running at 3.5ghz 250FSB 1:1 (PC4000 ram, 500mhz). OC'ing is really quite easy with this setup, esp. if you have a M0 stepping P4C

Oh man, that review rocks but the ones I ordered are the 256 MB sticks. Are they still DS?

I just figured out that they're SS not DS. But that's OK!! After reading the anandtech article, I'm very content that I bought some really good RAM. And I can always add 2 more DIMMS later.

Man, the wait is killing me. The parts won't be in until Wednesday and it's only Sunday afternoon.
