P4-2.6 C, how stable are they passed 3.0ghz?

Im wondering how stable the 2.6 C's are when running passed 3.0ghz. Im in the works of getting a 2.6 C with a Abit IC7 motherboard, 2x256 Cosair XMS 400mhz ddr, along with a SLK-900 Heatsink with a Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II. From what ive been reading from random forums, that combination is probably the best for oc'ing the C chips, as in the heatsink/fan/ram. As for the motherboard, im going with the Abit IC7 because its cheaper then the other springdales, and it performs just as good. I've also heard it comes with 1 gigabit ethernet? So yeah, if anyone could post screenshots or anything at all relating to oc'ing the 2.6 C, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Couple of things:

IC7 has no lan at all. The IC7-G has the gigalan but will cost you at least US$50 more.
IC7 is a Canterwood (875) not Springdale, as so is the higher end version.
Corsair XMS 433 or 3500 DDR is the reccomended. Many people have reported probs with 3200 but they may only be with people using 2*512.

The 2.6c should be able to handle 3.0 easily on stock cooling so with something a little better you should be able to hit 3.1-3.2. Alot of people do however agree that the 2.4c is the best overclocker of the gang being able to stably break 3.0ghz on stock cooling.

But yeh, 2.6c, IC7, and Corsair XMS make a very nice OC solution... Have fun...

I have a P4 2.6 C on a P4P800 (Springdale) with an SLK-900U (92mm Panaflo L1A fan). The CPU appears to max out around 3400MHz regardless of whether I am at stock voltage or not (pretty sure it isn't heat, I've had side panel of the case off with a floor fan blowing into the case and the CPU temp never goes over 41).

Originally I had 512meg TwinX Corsair - it ran 2-2-2-5 timings at DDR 400 with no problems. The 1 gig TwinX would not handle RAS-to-CAS of 2 at all. XMS 3500 is the best bet for this setup I think, I was able to get to DDR 440 at 2-3-3-6 and it still had room to go.

It really depends how much you want to clock it and at what memory speed. If you are doing 5:4 you can probably get to at least 250 FSB (400 DDR) which is 3250 MHz and ram running at DDR 400 - for this you do not need to buy the expensive RAM unless you want fast timings. If you are running 1:1 you can probably get up to around 225 FSB (450 DDR) which is 2925MHz if you have good PC3500, probably even higher with slow timings (I've seen DDR 466-500 done with PC3500 at 3-4-4-8).

I'm very excited... I just ordered an Abit IS7, 2x256mb Corsair XMS, and 2.4C P4 from newegg. I'll post my results once I receive the goodies

hey gramboh .. how is the Panaflo fan? I have same mobo and heatsink but I have a vantec tornado and it is just way too loud .. I cant put up with it anymore, the panaflo moves good air, I hear, but how loud is it (and does it in fact move a good amount of air?)

I believe it is spec'd at 43.7cfm and 27dba @ full speed (12v). I forget the rpm and it is 2 wire so I can't monitor it.

It is pretty quiet, with the case closed up I pretty much only hear the rattling of my awful Geforce 2 40mm fan and the 80mm PSU fan. It's definetely quieter than the PSU and exhaust fan even at 12v. I still get good temps too, 25-26 idle, 40-41 100% load.

Unless you are really overclocking far I would get it for sure - in that case go watercooling.

While my PC is far from silent, it is several magnitudes quieter than my previous machine (Athlon 1200 Tbird with 80mm intake/outtake and a 60mm Volcano @ 5400rpm). I can easily sleep with it on and cannot hear it if there is ambient noise from other sources (TV, speakers etc).

doh, i meant to say IS7, not IC7. To be exact, i meant the ABIT IS7-E. As for ram, not many people seem to be using anything but geil and corsair for oc'ing their p4 c's. The 2.4c does perform very well for being the lower clocked c chip, but from what ive seen in a an article from this site, it seemed like the 2.6c was the better oc'er since its stock clock is a little higher. I have been looking at the 2.4c and the one thing that grabs my eye is the price difference between the 2.4c and the 2.6c. A difference of about $50. Their both great chips, but until i see some more benchmarks i think for now the 2.6c is what im looking for. But please, post some results, im looking at the forum dailey to see results, cause im going to be buying fairly soon. Thanks for the replies btw.
