P4 2.4 - DDR333/DDR400/PC800/PC1066?

I'm looking to build a rig with a P4 2.4, but I am uncertain about which type of RAM to use. I do realize that DDR400 would be the obvious choice if only there were a good SiS648 board to make good use of it, but as of right now, that is not the case. I have a little flexibility in my budget, but the lowest price is the best. Any recommendations are welcome. (Also, has anyone heard of Asus's SiS648 board?)

I'd go for RDRAM PC1066, even though I aint a rdram fan, it's the only way to go with a P4 otherwise no point getting 1 as P4's aint that great with DDR atm =((

Anyways its up to you..

Then again you can go DDR 400, that way you won't have to replace your ram next time you upgrade considering intel are moving fully to ddr based systems =)

I'm not a speed freak therefore I went DDR, probably save me moeny in the long run..

depends of you want to spend the money....if money is no object...get the pc1066...
but you care about money...and you want good memory...and you are planning on o/cing...then get the ddr400...

Since when? With the advent of DDR333, DDR is a very viable alternative to RDRAM. DDR333 is faster than PC800, and isn't that far behind PC1066, and depending on which benchmarks you look at, the total spread between the three is 0-10%, averaging around 5%, meaning that most users would have difficulty discerning the performance between the three options on three otherwise identically configured systems.

Thanks for your help. Let's assume I go with DDR: should I wait for a good SiS648 board or will it work fine with current i845 boards (that supposedly only have PC2100 support)? If I go with SiS648, I know that PC2700 runs extremely well, and that PC3200 is "unofficially" supported but offers little advantage according to THG, Anandtech, etc. But if I go with i845, can I get PC2700 or even PC3200 memory to run at full speed? That would be an ideal situation, as I'm looking at the Abit IT7-MAX... well on second thought, maybe I should just stick 128MB PC133 in it, wouldn't that be nice?

I know for a fact that you can run PC2700 on any i845G board and at least some i845E boards. I'm going to hazard a guess that the IT7-MAX will run PC2700 just fine since its such a popular board.

I've had both AMD XP and P4 systems with DDR -> no complaints but now I run a P4 2.53 + ASUS P4T533 + 512MB Samsung PC1066 and a Abit TI4600, and without any overclocking my 3DMark2001 SE score is 12,500 default benchmark, a little teaking to 2.8Ghz and O/C the Abit I can achieve >14,000.

Go DDR if you are broke or don't wanna spend the $ but otherwise I would recommend RDRAM PC1066. Some people have opinions but have never tested/benchmarked the 2 so they really are just running thier mouths.

Well, NULL_X here runs both, and most of us have read plenty of benchmarks showing PC1066 RDRAM having only a slight lead over PC2700 DDR. THUGSROOK has a 1.8A OC'd to something like 2.7 running DDR and is getting similar 3Dmark scores as you.

Looks like it's an i845E mobo with PC2700. When I o/c my FSB from 133 to about 150, maybe 166, will this change the RAM access rate / would it be o/cing the memory also? I've heard of this, and that good Crucial, Corsair, and Mushkin DDR SDRAM o/c nicely, but I've never heard specifically HOW to o/c the memory.
