in the anandtech.com review of the athlon xp 1800+, the P4 2.0ghz is a FREAKIN JOKE! They should of called the Athlon xp 1800+ more like 2000+

POOR INTEL 😀

Eventually this will mean something to the consumers.

You would think. But as long as intel put out commercials sayingthe pentium speeds up your internet experience, gullible people will flock to intel.

That having been said, the Athlon XP looks like a sweet processor. Once prices settle I may well drop a couple into my Tiger MP I ordered yesterday.

Poor intel. When are they going to learn?

I think Rudder's on the right track. Many folks buy machines like Dells that are good to go out of the box and will never be tweaked or twiddled with in any way. They see a commercial implying that a P4 will bring the internet to life, make multimedia home stuff a breeze, etc and figure it's a good thing. AMD needs to address an audience outside of the enthusiasts that are currently their biggest fans and start getting spec'd in more ready to go rigs if they're ever going to take a chunk out of Intel. I'm not saying they need to change their design philosophy BTW, just their marketing.

AMD will just say that they speed up AOL and Intel will be sunk.

They were, but then AMD kept getting dropped by these companies (lastly Gateway) because they are trying to consaldate the number of suppliers they have.

people (especially on AT) forget how little of the population we are...sure if i had the cash (any cash) id sell off my dual p3 933 and go amd smp.

but joe blow = 1000000ATers. so as much as you want amd on top, it aint happening.

booty

edit: crap, meant for every 10000000 joe blows, there is only one ATer.

i think AMD shoud re-release that commerical where they had the train incoming to the station at like 200mph and the person had to choose the fastest computer to stop the train and the goofball choose the Intel machine and died. ROFL 😀

<< AMD sucks, they keep making me wanna upgrade 😛 >>

Exactly!! but I can't decide if that is a bad thing or a good thing... 🙂

At least the upgrades only run you $200 max. Pentiums on the other hand....

Now if only you could get great chipsets to go with AMD CPUs. That's a powerful leg for Intel. I, for one, pay above what I otherwise would have to with AMD in order to buy into the Intel platform, just so I don't have to deal with VIA, SiS or ALi. When will there be a BX chipset for the AMD world?

It's funny to see Intel get spanked. They've got to get that P4 up to 3.0GHz before they flatten AMD.

I would too seeing as AMD is an unpopular cpu and I think 9/10 people prefer Intel cpu and intel chipset as well, making it a very sweet combination.

And in first quarter next year, AMD releases Barton: Palomino that uses .13 micron tech. It will propably have architectual improvements (like 166Mhz FSB, 512kb L2-cache, wider internal data-paths etc.).

And of course, next year we will get Clawhammer! Now, THERE'S a CPU that I've been waiting for!

Well, I have to say THANK YOU to AMD for being conservative in their PR Ratings. Good review by anandtech also... nice to see the information about the SysMark benchmarks not using SSE and the small change to a text string which fixes that.
