P4 1.8 sl68q. *UPDATE CPU Arrived!*

Just saw someone recieved a SL68Q from Newegg this past Friday. Also saw people last week with with SL63x from new egg. I just ordered one from newegg and will let who ever is interested know.

I ordered a 1.8A from Newegg last week (actually recieved it Tuesday) and it was a SL63X. It does 2.7ghz at 1.75vcore (little high a voltage since I burned up my 1.6A with overvolting), so I run it at 2.61ghz at 1.7vcore and am quite happy with the way it runs.

Nice Warcon! I wish I have similar results as you. I am happy if this new chip can do 2400 since I use Rdram.
My current chip can't do 2400 at the max voltage which is 1.7v on Abit Th7-II.

Thats too bad, but it might just be an anomoly with that board and/or your RDRAM. Have you downgraded the performance of the RDRAM to see if thats whats holding you back?

Sorry to hear that though. RDRAM has its benefits and its negatives.

I don't think its the ram becasue I set the memory to 3x and it still can't load into Windows at 1.7v at 133 fsb. I can run my rdram 4x at 128fsb @ 1.65v. I think its the cpu.

3x @ 133 fsb = Pc800
I know these ram can do at least 4x @ 128fsb = Pc1024. With my luck, I might get another lemon. 😉

Current cpu info:

prod code: bx80532pc1800dsl63x (not sure what all this means)
fpo/batch: l146b046
pack date: 12/27/01

Oh yea, my motherboard has agp/pci lock at 33/66.

Warcon...that is pretty much identical to what my 1.8a got with a 6/14/02 packing date...63x chip as well

It did:

133fsb (2.4ghz) at 1.53v
139fsb (2.5ghz) at 1.61v
141fsb (2.54ghz) at 1.63v
146fsb (2.63ghz) at 1.71v

Couldn't get 150fsb to be stable at 2.7ghz though....

I have a SL63X I got from TCWO..

I can hit 2700, but it's unstable in Prime.. so It's down to 2650ish or so at 1.6v (working on getting it lower).

Wish I could get my hands on a Q as well.. 😀

Well if you can get it stable at 2650 which is likley only 3 fsb less then 2700 with only 1.6v you should likley be getting 2700 to work with 1.65v...In my experince with a few chips at these levels of vcore you usually have 2-3fsb per .025v...

If you can't get it stable at 2700 with 1.65 or more then it likley wont be stale at 2650....

UNLESS, it is your ram holding you back!!! What do you got?? Make sure you set 1:1 until you find cpu limit...

Awwww...Newegg haven't ship it yet. The worst part of ordering from Online is the WAIT.

EDIT: Spoke too soon, it has been shipped!

Yeah, I found Newegg to be pretty quick on the draw. But they sent me a weak 1.8A 🙁 SL63X, 6/26 pack date, I'm getting 2.25 GHz at 1.55 out of this chip. Needs another .025 to be 100% stable. I'll probably be trying another chip and selling off this one, I'll wait for some more reporting on the new stepping...

It could be the ram holding me back. I'm using the 32bit 4200 RDRAM from Samsung. It could also be my picky motherboard, Asus P4T533.

2.25 at 1.55v is not bad, I am at currently at 2.25 at 1.625v.

Yeah, it's not a bad oc for the voltage. You'd think the chip would have more potential to tap, but its oc-ability drops off a cliff past that point. I can get the system to run at 128 FSB but it's not much of a performance increase for the extra voltage. 129 is flaky, 130 won't POST half the time, anything faster won't POST at all, at any voltage.

All in all, I would rather have gotten this OC out of a 1.6a for the increased bandwidth, I have the mobo and memory for that (P4B533-V/Samsung PC2700) but I wanted to aim for higher MHz... sometimes you win the crapshoot, sometimes you don't. 🙂 The last 2 OC rigs I built took a couple of tries for a sweet chip too...

I emailed googlgear a couple of days ago & asked them to check their stock for a "Q". Unfortunately, they didn't have any. I suppose that our best bet would be the highest volume chip sellers. Any marketing types out there who might be able to dig this sort of information up??

The first chip that I bought was from googlegear and after returning it to them, they said that they have no way of requesting a pack date, batch, etc.

I bought my chip from Newegg a couple of months ago and it does do pretty good. I think that I was just lucky with my chip but I would wait another 3-5 weeks to order from them. They should be out of the "X" and have "Q" version with the die shrink due to their higher volume of sales. Just my opinion.

Hmm, I feel I should make an update here... I flashed my motherboard to the 1004 beta 12 BIOS a couple of days ago, I hadn't checked for any increased CPU OC-ability but I did just now for the heck of it... with the new BIOS my chip WILL now hit 133 FSB, with 1.65v, can't boot anything properly but I did get into ME at 1.675. I've already hosed my XP partition a few times with OC instability so ME is my initial testbed now. 🙂 All I do in ME is play old games that XP doesn't like, so no big deal if it gets thrashed.

But, since these ASUS boards overvolt so much, the actual VCore at the 1.675 setting is more like 1.69-1.74, and that's just too much for me, esp. considering I would likely have to jack the VCore setting up to 1.7 to stabilize at 2.4... nah. I don't think this chip is destined to do much more than 2.25 for the long haul, but it's not as poor as I initially thought.

Painman,
Not really familiar with your motherboard. Does it have a lock on agp/pci at 33/66? Might not be the chip, maybe other parts holding you back? Like the ram? Video card don't like high fsb?

What are your system specs?

Sorry, it's kind of fragmented across the thread, I'm running the ASUS P4B-533V + a single 512 MB Samsung original PC2700 + Visiontek GF4 Ti4600 (not overclocked). Antec 350W PSU. PCI/AGP lock engaged. The only thing getting OCed to any extent so far is the CPU... it looks like these cores can withstand ~1.7 volts, but a .2 bump seems kind of alarming. It didn't back in the .25u days, but modern cores are so tiny. I'll work with PCProbe as I've seen others around here doing and try to get a good bead on my VCore (is MBM not reliable?) and see what the outer limit is. But I'm guessing it's not going to be higher than 2.4.

Recently got a 2.26b from newegg with SL683, does 2.55@default voltage. i dont know the limits as my rambus is holding me back, gonna get a P4T533 next with RIMM4200 and see how high i can take it.

Ok, my cpu arrived from Newegg. Its not the SL68Q. Its SL63X with the pack date of 7/23/02,FPO/Batch # L224A416 ( week 24! 🙂).

Seems like the SL68Q is harder to get then first thought. The SL68Q came out in 7/8/02, but the 7/23/02 still using SL63X. Hope this does better than my 12/27/01 one.

I am still at work, so I will go home early to test out this baby.

What a pain taking out the AVC sunflower hsf.:disgust: Seems to run ok at default speed and voltage. Forgot how slow is 1800.... Time to play with bios.😀
