Would it be possible to overclock a P4 1.7 to anywhere above 1.8 or 1.9 with the standard Intel HSF?? Or do i need to have more aggresive cooling? I definitely won't go for more than air cooling... no water cooling stuff for me. One more thing... i bought Inwin IW-508 with 300W PSU and i will have 3 HDD and 2 Optical drives and almost full PCI Slot..would 300 W be sufficient?

Please don't crap the tread.. we had enough of those stuff.."P4 sucks!", "why'd you buy p4???". I hope this thread would be informational

Thanks All

I just replied to this in your other thread, but didn't comment on the PS, I think 300 watts may be shaving it a bit thin with all the stuff you run, you would be better off with like an enermax 351, or something bigger.

It really matters the quality of your P4. One thing to keep in mind is the speed of your RDRAM as well (most aren't that stable above 900mhz...or 450mhz, matters how you want to calculate it). I have a 1.7 at 2006mhz using the retail heatsink.

Apex, who manufactures the RDRAM you are using. Am I correct in assuming it is Samsung PC800? Is there anything else out there that is better to overclock with?

It's actually NEC ram, made for Compaq. I had two different sets of Samsung, but I couldn't get it up that high with those. Your experiences may vary.

i have seen samsung ram go to 500+ but most of the trimes you had to remove the heatsprreadder on the ram and put some decent sinks
