p4 1.6a or 1.8a to go 2.4ghz

how many people have gotten their 1.6a's @ 2.4ghz? arent you worried about the pci/agp bus being out of spec? how easy would it be to get a 1.8a ->2.4ghz? that way, everything's in spec. questions? comments? gripes?

They both could be equally tough to get to 2.4ghz...for the 1.8 it means 133 which I was able to achieve...for the 1.6 it means 150 which many have started to find board limitation could hold you back here...

I would get the 1.6 and a p4b266 asus board...many with this board have gotten successful to the 2.4ghz range...the asus is running stable at 150fsb...

1.8 is more of a gamble cause if you fail to get to 133 then you stand to run things out of pci agp spec by a large margin...you will want a board that locks pci/agp speeds otherwise...1.6 is about assured 133fsb or 2.128ghz...the only question is can you do it at default speed???

I have a 1.6A and an Epox 4BDA2+ mobo on the way. I chose the Epox for the great overclocking features. It has a PCI/AGP lock feature, and also lets you run 3:4 mem ratio above 133 FSB which the Asus does not. With the PCI/AGP lock, the PCI and AGP bus are always at spec.

I got my 1.6a to 2.4 on my Abit BD7-RAID. I'm using samsung 333 (i think?) ram from www.google.com. I'm using the stock heatsink, but my temps are a bit high. Plus, this m-board can 'lock' the PCI and AGP specs to 33 and 66.

the mem ratio feature of the epox plus the pci/agp lock sounds good....BUT!!! Do some research and check other sites I have a feeling this board wont be possibly stable at 150fsb...I don't think anandtech got it stable that high...check ocworkbench and others for reviews....

If you need to adjust vcore the asus board has a voltage boost as not to require the wire trick to stop nasty reboot failure issues...

If epox looks good definitely invest in some good pc2700ddr (like kingmax or corsair)...with a 3:4 ratio at 150fsb that would be 400mhz ddr...makes sure board has sufficient ddr voltage adjustments as well...

The guys over @ Hardocp forums have had very good luck with the Epox board. I have Samsung PC2700 on the way. I'll report back on how the setup works towards the end of next week after I get it going.

Duvie:

What about PC3200 ? I saw some 256mb Kinmax DDR400 for $96 ea.

Is this good ram ?

Which proc. would be faster ? 1.6 @ 2.4 (16x150) or 1.8 @ 2.4 (18x133)

Regards,
Jose

16x150 would be a lot faster than 18x133

i got a p4 1.6a to 2.56 on the gigabyte 8IRXP, that board is very nice

pc3200 ram seems kinda fishy to me
