P4 1.5Willie overclocking trouble.... :-(

I made my first try on getting my 1,5P4 to 133FSB through the P4T-E dipswitches but to no success.....🙁 I followed the settings provided by the P4T manual keeping the AGP and PCI to their nominal values. After that it booted into XP normally and when I reset in order to set the RDRAM multiplier to 3x (didn't wanna risk my Samsungs) it never booted again but only gave me WinXP messages of failure in startup, safe mode options etc.....
What's the trouble? Any special hints for this cpu by the experts? Could it be a P4 of x origin that doesn't overclock so well? Note that I have the ICS clock generators if it matters....

I think the CPU is holding you back. The older P4 doesn't overclock as well as the newer Northwood.

The Williamette isn't like Northwood. It will overclock some, but you won't get the stable/reliable 500-1000MHz overclocks. At 133FSB, you are trying to run your 1.5 at 2.0GHz; that's probably more than it can take, even with increased voltage. The typical 1.5GHz Williamette overclock is 1.7GHz to 1.8Ghz, with increased voltage. Using the P4T-E DIP switches, you no longer have access to the bios voltage options.

You will need to search this forum to perform the pin trick voltage mod to get up to 1.8GHz or so...if you want more than that, you'll probably need to invest in a Northwood.

How did Anandtech -Anand do you hear me???- manage to get the P4T at 145mhz with a 1,4gig Wilamette (socket 423 back then)??? I don't think they used air or liquid cooling.... 🙂
I deeply respect Kenaf's opinion and I think that my cpu is holding me back (maybe I ask too much...) but does anyone suspect a mistake I ve done? I say that because it booted once in 2Ghz but the problem appeared with the first reboot....
P.S: And it's that bloody Anandtech score....😕

Even some Northwood 1.6s won't overclock on a 133fsb. That's the luck of overclocking, except the Northwoods are far more likely to overclock that high successfully.

Maybe Anandtechs P4 willie was a unlocked processor so it allowed them to up FSB with a lower mulitplier

Yep didn't think about it! Afterall, most tested processors are unlocked version for magazines etc..... Anyway, I guess I have to stay at 1,7Ghz where I am now overclocked and buy a northwood soon...! Over 133mhz that I can handle the multipliers through DSW I am limited by the processor-Below 133 and over 115mhz I start to get worried for the PCI bus with the only available 1/3 multiplier......That's why I say in another thread that the P4T-E hates overclocking.....! 😱
