ok so im trying to connect to the internet.
i have a p35c-ds3r from gigabyte.
the integrated nic card is a "realtekrtl8168/8111 pci-e card gigabit ethernet NIC #2" (the exact thing it says under network connections)

this is the ONLY thing that shows up under network connections.
my cable is connected to a router (which works) which connects to a modem (which works).
the cable has been tested with another computer, it works as well.

basically, the problem HAS to be the hardware inside my pc, and nowhere else.
ive updated to the latest drivers (from like 2005).
any suggestions, im getting quite irritated.

on a side note, shouldnt there be more then 1 icon by default? (in network connections). cuz i only have one. the interesting thing is that the computer doesnt even detect me plugging the cable in. ("network cable is unplugged").

thanks

edits:
1) conecting the modem directly to the computer doesnt work either. but since the modem and the cable both work, the only problem can be the computer itself.

my friend has the same board and had the same problem today. He forgot to load the gigabyte drivers (cd that comes with board) after he installed XP. Once that is done go to network connections and make a new connection. BAM! done! :)

i appreciate the response, but im afraid its not that simple
1) its as if it doesnt even detect the cable (as if the cable is defective), which it isnt since ive tested it
2) thers only 1 icon in my network connections folder (and ive done microsoft's fixes for that, nothing works).

ive all but given up. gona grab a 10 dollar ethernet card tomrow. rma is not worth my time as im pretty sure its a fault of the onboard ethernet

Hi folks,

I'm stuck in the same problem. I just built a Ds3p build for my son, now in college.

I only have an old copy of XP home, so I loaded it up. Then I tried to load all the drivers up, and several of them required XP SP's 1 and 2 for all the drivers to load. Figuring it be no trouble to get on the college network and get all the needed XP updates, I tried all kinds of things to get the darn nic card to find the network. It won't/can't find anything, and I am stumped.

Thanks for the help, and IMO the MB is a great board.

like I said before. Did you install the Gigabyte drivers that came with the motherboard?

No it doesn't because tons of people expect Windows to just magically have all the newest drivers for everything.

Why would 2 boards be "defective" coincidentally like this when there's probably a hundred or so members who use this board fine?

Well, you never said straight up that you did indeed try the drivers on the CD. That would have avoided this whole convo.

did you check the bios and make sure that the HW LAN was "enabled". It is normally enabled but maybe it got turned off. Just a shot!

The gigabyte driver disk that comes with the mobo has about 4-5 drivers on it. Just load them all. The one you really want though is the Realtect network driver.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse but I spent 2 hours with my friend yesterday with the same problem. I asked him if he installed the drivers. All got was. ... "YA YA YA. i did. i did". Well, he didn't.....................

Go download/install the drivers off the Gigabyte site and it WILL WORK. The drivers that came with the CD did not work for me (I have the P version of this board).
