P3 question

I have an HP E-Vectra that I want to upgrade and I am not sure what socket type it is. The manual indicates:

"Intel Pentium III or Intel Celeron PPGA package with Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) socket."

Is this the same as a socket 370?

Yes! That is the socket 370. You will have to find a processor that is not Tualatin, unless you also get an additional adapter and have confirmation that your mainboard will work with it.

I wouldn't attempt any further upgrade that cost money unless the chipset is a 440BX.

You will also have to locate a chip with the "E" and not "EB" suffix. The "E" indicates the 100mhz FSB. The "EB" indicates a 133mhz FSB. Example, a P3-900E, is the 100mhz FSB socket 370 P3. This processor was made for HP and is now scarce. I bought one a few years ago and have migrated it to its second mainboard. It's a great processor if you can find it at a reasonable price. Mine ran for 20 minutes without the heatsink one day.
