I noticed that the flip chip p3s are cheaper than the slot 1s. is there any difference in performance, and if so which one is easier to overclock?

No overclocking differences noted. The slot 1 is being phased out. Flip Chips might cool easier. You need an adapter to use Flip-chips in Slot 1 MBs.

Get the FC-PGA - that form is more versatile since it will go in eithe a Socket 370 board directly or a Slot 1 mobo with a 'slocket' adapter. There's no performance difference. The new Intel 815E chipset is expected to be used only in Socket 370 mobos.

No performance difference. The Slot 1s are more expensive to produce and therefore cost a bit more. U can buy a slocket to convert the FC-PGA to a slot 1.

When you buy the slotket it brings the price inline with what you pay for the slot1/secc2 anyway. Sometimes the slotkets are up to $25.
Check out the MSI 6905 slotket @ onvia.com. It is pretty cheap right now.

thanks. i got an abit slocket from a friend for $9, so my total for the p3-700e cB0 with a slotket came out to $224 from onvia. i figure since i have an abit bf6, i might as well get an abit slotket. i thought that the slotket offered on onvia was generic. oh, never mind. msi doesn't call theirs a slotket. they call it a converter card. couldn't find it the first time. retards...

If you wan't to do extream overclocking, the SECC2 would be better. A peltier could be put on either side of the PCB, it would cool to insane temperatures..

I got a SECC2 because of the plans I had worked up for a gravity drivin water cooler.

hmm...heatsink/fan setups are usually bigger for slot 1 than for flip-chips, dunno if it makes much of a difference
