P3 933 - is it the cause of my woes??

It is in my opinion that your problem is yoru graphics card. I am in the same boat as you with the same motherboard and the same cpu. With my geforce 256 3d prophet, I can only run around a 120 mhz bus without problems but when I try to fire it up at 933mhz/133mhzfsb/89mhzagp I freeze up in Unreal Tournament as you do too. But when I put in my ATI all in wonder pci graphics card, I can run my cpu at above 1 ghz. One thing that helped me get a little higher bus was to pump up the i/o voltage to 3.5/3.6 since my geforce likes the extra volts. I am not sure about if the radeon would be able to fly high with more voltage since I dont really know much about them. All I know is that the Be6-2 has no 1/2 agp divider which really crimps overclocking with agp graphics cards.

Overclocker bitch about any and ever thing that don't run right, what you expect for nothing.Walfare is free so is the extra CPU power you trying to get out of a 700,so be happy you even got a 700 for peaks sake.Damn why cry over a few cycles you didn't pay for.

I even put the i/o up to 3.8. I have the V3 overclocked to 194 (from 166). Its completely stable there.
So you dont think the CPU is reaching its limits. Ill try with some different cards to see.

Thanks.

Napalm,

Not sure If anyone mention but I think memory is very crucial in overclocking. I would try brand name like Crucial (Sale right now) and see if it can do it. (When you push Front Side Bus high try not to mixed memory)

I hav two PCs with same problem as yours (Crash in UT) but with Crucial PC133 Cas2, both run very nice at 143Mhz * 7.

Hope that help.

Sharkmeat: I don't recall anyone asking you to come crap in my thread - if you have nothing to contribute then STFU. And by the way - I paid for a guaranteed overclocker...

Expandable: You are 100% correct. It was the memory. I swaped out my PC133 Hyundai memory which was running 3,3,3 with Infineon PC133 memory. Now UT is stable - even at 2,2,2. Just goes to show that all memory is not created equal - even when running at the designated speed.

Thanks to all those who had helpful suggestions,
Napalm

Napalm- Now I suppose it's time to see how far you can push that CPU huh? How about pushing a little bit more and letting us know what you get. Maybe you'll get a gig out of it. 🙂

Oldfart:
It seems to be stable at 1.75v - I am running at 1.8v just to be safe. I have tried running it at 1000MHz and it seemed stable in Windows. However, when I loaded up UT, it crashed pretty quickly. Mind you, I did have the memory set at 2,2,2 - so, it is possible that I might still hit 1000MHz with this CPU. I'll likely play around with it once I have more free time (i.e., once my says its OK to waste an afternoon... 😉)

Napalm:
Please tell me if you can run UT stable at over 945 mhz. I can run it, but occasionally i get kicked back to the desktop. I can boot fine into windows at above 1ghz, but of course UT is no go then. Have my ram at 2-2-2 even at 143 mhz fsb in windows, so i dont think its the RAM. (mosel cas2).

Velf

UT is now stable at 966MHz - but the memory has to be notched down to 3,3,3 for perfect stability. It seems that 933 with memory pegged at 2,2,2 is identical to 966 with memory at 3,3,3. I have chosen to notch down the processor and have the memory running full blast.

Cheers,
Napalm

PS wtf does my name appear with a yellow highlight sometimes???
