P3-866 or T-Bird 1Ghz?

🙂I am trying to decide between a P3-866 and a T-Bird 1ghz. This is what I have so far:

300w PWS
Kenwood 72x
Maxtor 40Gig 7200rpm
256mb PNY PC-133 Ram
SB Live X-Gamer
Creative GeForce2 32mb
DSL Modem

Stability is my #1 priority! Followed by performance. I hate big blue screens or frozen ones for that matter! I have heard in the past that AMD processors are very finicky about what components are used and are very power hungry. I have also heard that some games/programs just wont work on AMD based systems. Anyways, any comments or suggestions?

even though i am a die hard intel fan, obviousally the tbird

ya some high end 3d programs dont work on amd systems, but if you were gonna run those, atlas 10k iiis and 1.5 gig of ram would be on your list, and a oxygen card not a geforce card

T-bird all the way!!! You don't have to worry about power consumption with that 300watt psu, and as far as AMD having incompatibilities, that just ain't true. The first generation of motherboards based on the AMD750 (Irongate) chipset were a little shaky, AMD systems are just as stable as Intel systems now (if not more)...

T-Bird, without qualification. Incompatibility issues have long been a thing of the past with AMD.

...as long as you are always running the latest VIA 4in1 drivers.

For a motherboard, wait a few weeks and get the MSI pro2 which is by far the most stable motherboard availible.

Stablility Schamility.

Its generally NOT the hardware! Run Windows 2000 and you should have few problems! Run Windows 9x and you might regret it!

Would get the T-Bird along with the same motherboard sciencewhiz recommended. And if you feel 1Ghz isn't good enough, you could always OC it. 🙂

Intel p3 933's are now $342. Cheaper then the Athlon i was looking at. Ck it out on pricewatch.com 🙂

<<For a motherboard, wait a few weeks and get the MSI pro2 which is by far the most stable motherboard availible.>>

Its already out. $113 at mwave.com.

Well it was last night at 2am.lol Guess they got arnd to updating their pricing today. Never the less...$520 a day ago p3 933 to $342. Im going w\ the p3. 🙂

<<Guess they got arnd to updating their pricing today>>

Stop BSing, the Tbird 1GHz has been as low as $270 since like two weeks ago.

I just wanted to correct a bit of the misinformation in the 1st reply to the question :

Please post the name/issue regarding a high-end 3d program not working on the Athlon please. I have yet to encounter such issues in my own 3D work, and have not heard of anyone having any problems that haven't been ironed out by the second generation of motherboards. Repeating hearsay as fact is wrong...

as to the question: Unless you already have a REALLY nice fcpga motherboard, the TBird is by far your best bet.

i dont pay much attn to Athlon chips Lxi. I was not seriously considering to buy one. On mwave it was $400 bucks as of last night,p3 was $520 last i looked, till last night @ 2 am when i was looking arnd. May have been $100 bucks in last month.lol Not bs, I am just telling you what i saw.

Hyp:

Is mwave the only placed you looked at? Please dude, check pricewatch, the Tbirds have been as low as $270 in the past few weeks. mwave is just slow to catch on and you shouldn't judge the price of an entire CPU line base on just 1 store.

Gee, let me think....

I'll take the Pentium3! Yeah! That's it..

What you have heard is incorrect. Any program will run on an AMD processor. Period.

You shouldn't be getting a cheap, low quality power supply, anyway. That would be like putting Regular Unleaded in your new Ferrari.

You don't want cheap, generic ram, either. If you get some high quality CAS2 stuff, you will have no problems.

The K7T Pro2 is the most stable board, but the K7T Pro is stable, also. If you're going to be building the system now, go ahead and get the K7T Pro. I'm assuming you wont be doing any overclocking, anyway.

DAMN! I want a K7T Pro2. 🙂 When will they become available?
