Hi, these few days decide to overclock my cpu.
successful to reach 933(7*133mhz) w/o any problem under Win98 6 months ago.

rite now i am using WinXP pro.

** Will this OS "stablize" the overclocking? **
crashes have been reduced using XP

i want to know how far people can get from this cpu.

motherboard, Abit BE6
heatsink, Golden Orb (huge) can't even take out after installed

after all, is 200mhz to 300mhz worth of a try?

thanks

Yep, the multiplier is locked. You need to turn up the FSB to 133 to get your 933mhz.

while it used to be considered good, the golden orb is a terrible cooler.
i got better temps on my 700 PIII using a retail Athlon 900 heatsink. and that's what brought the 700 upto 980 with 1.75V (1.65 default)

use prime95 as another program to stress your cpu. that will definitely let you know whether or not your cpu is stable at 933.

also, just try it out, and see what happens. i have a p3-700@933 w/ 512mb ram running Win 2k and XP and both work great! However, do try out the program, just to be 100% sure, as WinXP Pro really wont "stabalize" your overclocking, haha. If your cpu cant handle the faster speed, no operating system can help you out.

good luck :)

I ran my P3-700e@933 for over a year. For part of the time i was running it at 1050/150 on a Asus P3V4X but I didn't feel comfortable with running my AGP/PCI out of spec that much. You should be fine :)

I run 3 of them that way.
I recently had a lot of trouble with one of my systems, on an MSI BX Master mobo.
Turns out the HS had gone cockeyed and it was a heat related load of crashes.
Now it's all back to normal, actually running better than ever before. During the heat probs it has a registry crash and restored from an old copy. I had to reinstall a lot of software but some irritating and annoying things went away at the same time.
Blessing in disguise. ;)

rite now running at 140fsb(979mhz)

run the torture test...
fatal error: failure after 2 prompts.

it means i can't overclock that far?

so jealous people can get that far but i can't...

also, in 3dmark2001, my result is 2300. even slower than a 966mhz.

i know 3dmark2001 is mainly for video, but will increasing cpu power affect the result?

now at 133fsb.(140fsb sometimes craches)

133 without any problem at 1.75v.

3dmark2001 is more likely to test out the video side.

there is about 5unit higher after switched to 140fsb(980mhz)

sorry don't want to tell my 3dmark result, kinda low.
