Well, Kazaa is getting it bad, and it starts right when I start having money to buy CDs 🙁.
...so, what are some other good ones that work fine through firewalls?
I really wish I could get CDs w/o helping out the RIAA, too, but eh...I'll at least make sure I don't give them a few bucks and then not like the CD, but be unable to return it.
 
pirating is bad, but if you cannot rip your cds and would like to get backup copies, check bittorrent, irc, or newsgroups

I couldn't get BitTorrent to work right.

And I *CAN* rip my CDs. What I want is to not buy CDs that I only like 1 or 2 songs from. Kazaa Lite has allowed me to do this, but with the lawsuits going about, I'd rather find another.

I like having the CD...for one thing, most people sharing have crappy rips. For another, I just feel better having gotten the plastic. Lastly, I like going through the leaflets 😀.

The headphones at stores are fine, just that I don't want to preview any new pop stuff. My most recent binges have been into Ian Moore, Pavement and EL&P...not something they will be advertising at B&M stores, most likely (not from what I've seenr ecently, anyway).

pirating is bad. you will get this thread locked if you try and talk about it. if you want just a few songs than use one of the many companies out there that let you download digital quality songs online.

If you want a way to get just the songs you like, go through one of the online methods (itunes, as was mentioned, for instance). You can purchase individual songs.

Considering you'd pay $10-20 for a new CD and if you only liked 2-3 songs... you'd spend maybe $3.

Just because you don't want to buy an entire CD doesn't give you the justification to go and download the songs without paying. 😉
 
I would be willing to pay a buck a song if the selection were there. iTunes has 200,000 songs. K++ usually has over 6,000,000 GB available.

The fact is Kazaa has a much larger selection of music (sh!t or not) than iTunes. It is still hard for me to find any of the stuff I am looking for on Kazaa, but I could almost guarantee you that it wouldn't be on iTunes. If I like it I eventually end up buying the CD anyways, but I hate spending $15+ for a CD that I am completely in the dark about. Reviews and word of mouth only go so far, I like to hear a band before I spend my money.

$12/hour ($1/5 min)sounds right to me.
Why?
Made in Japan: $7 for one of the greatest live albums ever.
Days of Future Past wouldn't fare well either.
Even I'm cool with them making a little more. $12/hr puts it just under $15.
