p182 installation questions

Well I finally have all my parts here and I am starting to put it all together. I'm a little confused though when it comes to the power supply installation. I'm not sure wether I should use that metal inclosure or not, and which way to put my power supply. It seems that the fan in the power supply is going to be facing the bottom of the case, is this right?

any help is VERY appreciated.

also, it says in the instruction booklet that you route the cables through the black sliding piece, is this correc?

1. You can mount the power supply either up or down, however you feel. Since it has a separate chamber that's ventilated, you're really not going to have to worry about cooling so much.

2. Yes, the cables go through the black sliding piece, or through any of the holes to the space behind the mobo. You're supposed to use that piece to close off the bottom chamber after you route the cables, but many people just remove it.

3. Search is your friend for finding pics of people's cabling of P180s and 182s. There are lots here.

Here are some pics of my setup with the case:

Here is an overview of how it looks like with the cables all managed. I have a Corsair 620W PSU. I planned my cable routings out before I actually screwed down my motherboard. All front USB, audio, and the case wires are routed under the motherboard.

Here is a picture of the back of the case where all the cables are routed and hidden. You can see that I am using an IDE DVD-writer so I managed to squeeze the ribbon cable as well as the power molex into the circle holes to further hide the cables.

one more unrelated question though,

this was my first build, and I'm very worried that I didn't get the heatsink and cpu matching up completely. I was getting very stressed when installing the heatsink because it feels like you really cant tell if they're exactly on top of each other.

any thoughts?

Which CPU fan did you use? Did you install the one that came w/ the CPU? Or did you buy a 3rd party one?

ultra 120 extreme with scythe s-flex.

I'm not sure if that one uses the push-click mechanism. My 3rd party fan is, and so is the stock fan, as long as all 4 push pins clicked, you'll be fine. Mine is probably just as big as yours, and doesn't seem like mine is falling or in an angle.

yeah, except this heatsink is designed a little differently. you can still move the heatsink even when all the push pins are in.

well I went to the thermalright website and apparently its a new design feature and it doesnt effect performance...weird.

If your CPU temperature is good, probably you shouldn't worry.

The U120Extreme will move (wiggle?) slightly even after all 4 screws are tightened. Just try to keep it parallel to the rest of the crap in your case, and you should be fine. Use coretemp or everest to check core temps, and if they're good, as SOS said, then you're fine. I use the same HSF and the movement is weird but my temps are great.
