p180 vs Nine-Hundred

Which would you think is a better case, if you have experience with either?

Well, right now I've got a p180 set up as my rig.

e6600
P5w DH Deluxe
2 gig Corsair 6400 DDR2 4-4-4-12
150 Raptor
4x Seagate 320GB
x1900 xtx

I've got an extra P5W DH Deluxe and e6600 laying around now because of gifts I didn't need, so I'm going to make another rig. I was going to move my main stuff over to the nine-hundred and turn the p180 into more of a media PC.

I don't have any personal experience with either one, but from reading the reviews, forums, and so forth...

I get the impression that the P180 has been positioned as a mature, general purpose case, and a nice one at that, with a BIG following. It's a class act!

The Nine-Hundred is new, and was designed to be a Gamer's Box, if you will, for ppl running ATI Crossfire or Nvidia Quad-SLI cards, KW PSU, OC'ed CPU, and all that sort of stuff, e.g. it's made to breathe...

Overall p180. The 900 isnt even a full tower, so to me its clunky for no good reason. Antec just copied the CM stacker 830.

Yeah, I was initially impressed with the cooling aspects (bigass fan) of the nine-hundred but the more I think about it, the p180 is a pretty sweet case.

I didn't want to make another topic, but what is a good psu that is 500 watt or more? I'd like to spend as little as possible to get a quality product but I've heard bad things about antec psus.

Last I heard, Seasonic makes really good PSU's that are very quiet, and at a good price too.

And sorry if this is off-topic or if i'm hijacking the thread or if this question has been asked before.
But will the geforce 8800 gtx fit in the antec P180?Will one ofthe hard drive cages have to be removed?

I've got a Silencer 610 in my system right now and it works great, a little cramped in the p180, but it was almost $200. So something a lot less than that would be good. Anyone know if Modular power supplies work well with the p180 and if there are any decent high power ones?

I have the modular Corsair 620W and it works great, I just forgot to attach the cables I would need before I installed the PSU so it took some time to get those connected but it works great. FYI the Corsairs are said to be made by Seasonic.

The corsairs are made by seasonic. No question about it. If you want something really reliable, get a zippy/emacs or etasis psu. However, these are server PSUs and are quite loud and are hard to find.

I'm also using the P180 and it suits me fine. I would have went for a lian-li or a silverstone if I had to do it again though.

Thanks for all the input! Do you really need one of those 1000 watt babies to run SLI and multiple hard drives properly, or can you get by fine with ~600-700 ?

600-700 is more than enough. You should look at the amperage of the 12v rail to be certain.

I see you have 5 hard drives. Try to enable staggered spin-up if possible. There's a possiblity it will strain your PSU.

I looked up staggered spin on wikipedia, but I didn't see any way to enable it. Is there some kind of specific controller you have to purchase, or is it a semi-standard bios option?

Also, what exactly are the differences (besides color) in the p180 and the p180b?

It's usually only on enterprise storage controllers. I was wondering if it happened to be in your bios or anything. Nah, don't worry. It's usually only a concern when you get to higher numbers of drives. I'm just usually paranoid about power supply reliability and health.

Although HDDs only use a few watts of power when they're already enabled, they can use much more when they initially spin up. Add several HDDs to the mix and you can get some dead PSUs pretty quickly.

The color is the only difference between the two.

I just went through all the reviews on PSU and i ended up getting the CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX it is made be Seasonic plus you get the modular cables, it was $10 cheaper than the Seasonic 550 so i ordered from the egg I also ordered the P180B

i got practically the EXACT same setup

P5wdh w/ e6600 in the p180 black version w/ a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610w psu. It's definitely a pretty nice case. Although its a pain in the butt getting the cables through the small lil hole.

But i'm getting some pretty good temps with my tuniq 120. At full load and both fans top exhaust fans on high in getting like 43C.
